Myself and our 2 teenagers signed up to do Competent Crew, while my husband was doing his Day Skipper qualification with Ross Brady during the May half-term. I had reservations beforehand thinking it might be too much hard work, instead of the break I was looking forward to. I was also concerned whether it was a good idea to take our daughter away in the middle of her GCSE exams.
Anyhow after 5 days sailing with Ross we can all say that we had a wonderful week! It was most enjoyable, and we have come away with a sense of achievement, feel competent and able to sail a boat. Ross is a very thorough instructor but what is special is that he teaches in a very calm, patient and clear manner and only intervenes when he needs to. He gave us all confidence in ourselves. He also makes the whole experience fun, and he is great company. The sailing course was a needed respite for our daughter away from the pressure of the exams (she did manage to get a but if recision in too).
We look forward to sailing again with Ross. Thank you! ?

With butterflies in my stomach we left the marina at 04:00AM on the outgoing tide. With no experience i really didnt know what to expect. However Ross, with his calm demeanor relaxed my nerves pretty much straight away. Cant speak highly enough of this guy, i really felt me and my boat were in safe hands and he got me to my destination with almost perfect timing... Whats more the photos he took make it even more memorable for me. All in all very compatent man and a great photographer too! Thank you Ross, speak soon no doubt...

I have just returned from an amazing 10 day voyage with Ross to the Paimpol classic boat and music festival. During the trip we had rough seas and strong winds but I enjoyed every moment! Ross’s obvious skill, calm demeanour and humour was so reassuring we were able to take it all in our stride. We arrived wet but happy and had a fantastic weekend. The trip back was a doddle - we had all grown so much in confidence under the watchful eye of our eminent skipper. I’m very much looking forward to sailing with you again - thank you Ross!

We had a chilled weekend learning some heavy weather sailing techniques with Ross in Strong winter conditions . Great memorable winter weekend. Certainly going to keep in touch for future advice and training.

The best sailing experience ever. I did my day skipper and my family did their competent crew under the expert supervision of Ross our instructor.
The training was thorough but fun.
You finish each day with a real sense of achievement, a well deserved a pint or glass of wine and a sound sleep.
We have all come away with new enthusiasm and profound satisfaction.
Simply first rate.

We spent 5 very successful days and nights with Ross, as a RYA instructor, for the day skipper practical course, with various weather conditions. Ross is an extremely balanced instructor, showing all the practical skills required with just the right amount of time to digest them, without bothering his crew, then letting a lot of freedom for the students to organize and practice. You feel empowered quickly. He is constantly actively observing and correcting where/when required, always with a positive mindset and smiling. He is result oriented without being 'bossy'. You can feel a true (contagious) passion in what he is doing, and you understand quickly the South coast has not a lot of secrets for him. I think finally that Ross can cope with various psychological profiles, having been exposed to many situations in his life. He can be discrete if required, or share a lot of experience and stories if asked for it. He is very active also in all cooking, cleaning, logistical aspects of living aboard, certainly good in cooking with whatever he has. In brief, with Ross, you feel safe, you learn, and you have a relaxing and fun trip. I strongly recommend Ross as an instructor or just a skipper thus.

Ross is an excellent skipper and instructor. He gave me a bunch of practical sailing tips that I won't forget. Most importantly, he is a lovely human being. Professional, hard-working and friendly, with a great sense of humour. A joy to share a boat with.
