I was in desperate need of a flight school who had competent instructors who could teach IFR. I highly recommend this school. Between Max (owner) and Ethan we were able to get it done.
I tell people who are interested in learning to fly, find a CFI that is not in their twenties, a CFI that is not trying to build time, and a CFI that has experience. “Age before beauty.” I unfortunately learned the hard way with instructors who did not fit the above criteria. By the way, I am in my mid twenties.
I recommend going to all the flight schools in the area talk to the instructor you will be flying with and ask these simple questions:
1. How many hours do you have? (400 may sound like a lot but it’s not)
2. What is your goal after being a CFI?
3. How long have you been an instructor?
4. What is your availability?
What Max will say:
1. Over 5,000 (so will Ethan)
2. “This is it, not going to run off to the airlines.”
3. 30 years
4. You tell me!
The main goal of this school is to make safe pilots. The goal of some other places is to make a pilot who can pass a check ride and move on. When I found Flight Teachers, I already had my private pilot license with some instrument training. Throughout instrument training here, Max and Ethan definitely found some holes in my private training and they made me a safer and more confident pilot. When you are learning to fly you need instructors that make you think, that make you ask questions, and instructors that throw you in real world scenarios that you may encounter.
I tried to keep costs down with other schools who were a tad bit cheaper but in the end, I wasted a lot of time and money because these other CFI’s had their ulterior motives of time building and did not know how to teach. Trust me when I say this “you get what you pay for” when it comes to flight training. In the long run if I spent a little bit more on better CFI’s who cared. I would have been done a long time ago and would have saved a lot more!
In conclusion, even if you do not end up here at this school; you are investing in yourself. Find a school and a career flight instructor who can actually teach and doesn’t need your hours.
I wish I found Flight Teachers sooner!
