My son did not want to return to a traditional classroom for the new school year. We researched so many programs, and all lacked something. When we found Elite, we knew this was where he should attend. The support from the school is phenomenal, and they see each child for more than only a test score. They offer a lot of engagement with peers through study groups, virtual field trips, and in-person field trips. My son was even able to join a video game design class and begin acting lessons. When you take out all the distractions of a traditional classroom, you have Elite. My son is doing better in school than he ever has before. So thankful.

My son's grades started suffering around 5th grade in the traditional setting, and then the pandemic hit his 8th grade year, he completely gave up on school.

We signed him up at Elite initially because of the fact that their system is so easy and streamlined-- as a parent, I can have him log right into his dashboard and see his assignment completion. He is identified as a GATE student (tested in 2011), and Elite works for him because he can work on his accelerated pace.

Apart from that, Elite allows for students to pursue enrichment opportunities not available at a brick and mortar school. He's gotten credit for learning the guitar, and PE (a traditionally agonizing class for some) works around his interests as well: skateboarding and weightlifting.

There are a lot of delays in regards to receiving materials. The good thing so far is the quick communication via email or text.

However...

I started with this school this year. For now, I am not impressed with how special education is handled. The staff have absolutely no clue how to guide parents with curriculum for special kids. At first I thought things were working well but unnecessary items were purchased and now I lost those funds. The IEP meeting is soon but that puts us behind because we still have to do evaluations and see which needs we need to meet. For now, we are kind of in limbo.

I am hoping things will turn around as I am pushing for more support and guidance in this process. Thankfully, I am very happy with the special ed teacher we have been paired with.

Elite, please train your staff on how to work with families with special needs. You cannot allow someone without special education experience to recommend curriculums. This should be a teacher with experience responsibility.
Also, please meet with parents a few weeks earlier so that we can have the guidance and have materials ready before school starts.
Please add amazon as your vendor so we can receive items quicker.

My experience thus far has been very frustrating and the only person giving me hope right now is the special ed teacher.

Update: Nov 2019

After some time and many evaluations, I can say that I am impressed by the team and the results of the evaluations. The team of OT, Speech, Sped Teacher, and School Psychologist have done a fantastic and extremely thorough job with my child. My son will have the services he needs with full support. Out of all my experiences with school evaluations and IEPs, I can say this school has done a fantastic job and I cannot believe how thorough they have been. Most of all, I am surprised at how much they have found my child is capable of doing. Homeschooling was a tough decision for us but after the progress my son has made with all this support in just under 3 months, I feel confident that he will continue to learn and enjoy learning at home, therapy and library with his sped teacher.
