Heaven help you if there's a problem because the principal is oppositional and hostile. We started my son there at the beginning of the year. There were some problems (a child BROKE HER FINGER and the school didn't call the parents - they sent her back to class with an ice pack, there was a lot of hitting during class time, some relational aggression with older children picking on younger).

A group of parents tried to arrange a meeting with the principal and she told the parent she didn't want to meet because she "already hosted several meet and greets. What more do you people want?!"

Yep, the principal said that.

Finally arranged a meeting where the principal and the director threw the teacher under the bus. Refused to apologize. Refused to say what THEY would do to fix their problems. Refused to take any responsibility or be accountable at all. Nope. Three of us pulled our kids out. Another stayed but only because she couldn't find another suitable school.

My sons attend MLC and we love it! The faculty and staff know every child in the school and are very loving and supportive. My husband and I are English speakers, but I'm thrilled to say that my kids speak and write fluent Spanish as well as English.

I go to this school and I am in 7th grade. For those of you saying the school I bad, it's not. The teachers are amazing. The only thing is your child MUST MUST MUSTTTT pat attention. Trust me, their are multiple people that don't pay attention and then fail. So when you say oh oh oh but my kid is spectacular she/he shouldn't be failing. Reality check: your child is the problem. The only problem is some of the kids have mental problems and are rude to others. I have been here for 8 years and I have all A's and so do more than half the people in my class. The rest have only one b. Don't believe me? Ok. Your loss for not coming to this amazing Spanish speaking school

My family has been part of the MLC family since 2006 when our son began his education there. He graduated after completing the entire K-8 program in 2015. Our daughter began in 2012 and is now in middle school, 6th grade. When she completes her 8th grade year, our families will have had a 15 year partnership. Quite an accomplishment from both sides!
During that time MLC has faced an incredible amount of change while also continuing to be the flag-bearer for innovation of dual-language education. I understand how some parents might criticize the school, but like any institution that retains a tightknit, small community of learning that promotes respect, responsibility, caring, tolerance, and safety (5 principles), there will be isolated incidents that require the community to dialogue with one another to solve issues.
MLC is not a school that treats issues lightly, not from our perspective. In crisis, this is where I saw staff, administration, and other school personnel shine. Not only offering support and resolve for my son, but providing a lesson to his entire class and peers through community and adhering to the 5 principles. From this incident, growth was nurtured and bonds were strengthened. However, this does require support and commitment from the families that enroll their kids at MLC.
In a time of seemingly ongoing conflict and divide, I feel MLC’s position in our society has become even more important. A place not only for learning and developing real world skills that will be transferable into a new global economy and society, but also where our future generations will react and respond with respect and understanding and empathy and LOVE for their fellow brothers and sisters in the human FAMILY. Thank you MLC for having faith in our young people!
