I passed my checkride yesterday to become a new Seaplane Pilot. I flew with Sarah and it was a pleasure. She has an impressive resume and great instructor skills. I also met other members of the staff and they were welcoming and enthusiastic. If you want a fun experience on both the river and lakes, wonderful instruction and flexible scheduling head on over to Goodspeed. Challenge yourself with something new!

Flying with Goodspeed Seaplanes has been the highlight of my aviation training. I initially was going to get my float rating in Florida because thats what most people do right? I called a few places down there and i was never greeted with a warm welcome. When I came across Goodspeed seaplanes I gave them a call, left a message and the owner (Mike) called me back the same day and had me all set up with the Cheif instructor who promptly had a plan for me.

They were timely, organized and flexible. The instruction was top notch and flying off the river, surrounded by terrain and obstacles while dealing with new england weather made the training seem as realistic as possible.

42B is a great little airport with brand new tent platforms, a grill and fire pit built by volunteers with materials donated by RAF. I stayed in a tent and walked to dinner the night before my check ride. If you show up proficient, and have a solid foundation of the basics of flying, you'll have no problem finishing in five hours. If i had the money i would've done the long course.

Im glad I didn’t go to Florida.

I 100% recommend flying with Eric if you’re looking to get your seaplane rating! I completed it in just 3 flights and really enjoyed learning how to fly the 172 on floats. The aircraft is very well-maintained and Eric is an amazing instructor who truly cares about his students!

I had an excellent experience with Goodspeed Seaplane. The Connecticut River offers a beautiful and dynamic environment to fly, with varied terrain, real-world conditions like boat traffic, bridges, and a series of nearby lakes. The student guide and procedures were clear and well-prepared, and the instruction—both on the ground and in the air—was outstanding. Al was my instructor, and Eric, while not my direct instructor, went out of his way to ensure I was ready for the checkride. The focus on safety and sound judgment was evident throughout. Mike even managed to schedule my checkride for the same week I completed my training, and I felt fully prepared. The seaplane rating was exactly the kind of stick and rudder, adventurous flying that first drew me to aviation. Some of the most memorable hours in my logbook, for sure. Thanks, Goodspeed!

Highly recommend a seaplane ride with Goodspeed Seaplane! Took a 20 min tour down the spectacular lower CT River valley in a vintage Cessna. The experienced pilot Eric made us feel comfortable and safe. Smooth as silk takeoff and landing. The ride was a blast got some great pics!

I just completed my commercial seaplane pilot add-on at Goodspeed Seaplane . If you want a well-rounded and fun training experience, Goodspeed Seaplane is the place!! My instructor Eric accommodate my schedule and got me the training and skills I needed to pass my check-ride. Having the Connecticut river available as your training ground makes the seaplane training very efficient. Overall a great experience!!
Besides, Goodspeed airport is in a very picturesque part of Connecticut.
I highly recommend anyone that is considering getting a seaplane rating to give Goodspeed Seaplane a call.

If you’re looking for a fun flying challenge, this is the place! Eric is a great instructor, has great teaching skills, and makes the experience a real pleasure. The Cessna 172 on floats is an ideal trainer, very well suited to the job. I got the rating in just under five hours and had a blast doing it…highly recommended!
