An absolutely beautiful facility!
Unfortunately no photos allowed. My daughter and I are swimmers. She’s a gold medal winner Florida special Olympics; 1:25 100 freestyle. Both of us have swam in many facilities across the country. This facility has 2 lap pools. The one we swam today is 8 lane 25 meters 81 degrees and crystal clear.
This is the best swimming facility in the country by far. And what makes it by far is the staff. The staff is Professional warm and welcoming. 2 thumbs up!

The equipment is new and clean. Lots of cardio machines. Wasn’t too busy at 3pm on a Tuesday. Basketball court is in amazing condition. Staff are friendly.

As a loyal member of the YMCA for over 8 years, I am appalled by my recent experience. While the YMCA generally offers a decent facility in a convenient location, the café is a glaring issue. Not only are the food prices absurdly high—a small smoothie cost me $10—but the behavior of the man at the counter is completely unacceptable.
I was treated with blatant disrespect. After purchasing my overpriced smoothie, I went to blow my nose using the tissues provided, only to be rudely yelled at multiple times for simply blowing my nose. This was not just unprofessional but downright dehumanizing.
It is unacceptable to be treated this way as a paying customer. I strongly urge you to address this matter immediately to ensure no other members have to endure such treatment.

While the New Canaan YMCA boasts excellent gym facilities and generally pleasant members, my experience has been marred by significant issues, primarily stemming from incompetent and unprofessional staff.

Firstly, the front desk staff are consistently unhelpful and rude. When my locker lock malfunctioned, they interrogated me rather than offering assistance. Shockingly, they then handed me a ring of keys to every locker, essentially granting me access to everyone's belongings.

Secondly, their deceptive practices are unacceptable. They lured me in with a "free month" promotion requiring ten workouts. However, they arbitrarily changed the rules, claiming I needed to attend more than ten times and even neglected to check me in on one occasion. Their explanations were contradictory and nonsensical.

Thirdly, the layout of the gym is poorly designed. The lack of adequate space between machines has resulted in me being physically bumped into during my workouts on multiple occasions.

Finally, the high cost of membership ($100/month) simply adds insult to injury. The poor customer service is unacceptable at any price point, but it's particularly egregious given the premium fee.

Three weeks ago, we subscribed to the YMCA! I was very happy to find a place that offers many activities for our family. Then the worst thing happens, I lost my wedding ring!!! I thought it was gone!!! I was devastated, I had cried all day and night. Then this afternoon we received a call from one of the YMCA employees and they informed us that a person had found the ring and returned it to the staff, I still can’t believe it. It makes me very happy to know that there are good and honest people, I have no words to express my gratitude to the YMCA staff and the kind people at this gym. You kindly offered me your help, I’m happy to be part of you!! Thank you so much!!!

As someone who was a member here for a while and had gotten to know some of the staff; It's pretty apparent to me that the CEO and higher-ups don't do much to take care of their staff. They frequently cut corners and make the remaining staff pick up the pieces. An example is the pool maintenance room is not up to code and has numerous OSHA and regulatory violations. New Canaan can do better.

(Full disclosure: I'm one of the group fitness instructors here). I love the New Canaan YMCA -- it's a great place to work and I've never felt so welcomed before. The director of fitness is empathetic, kind, and she genuinely cares about having a strong group exercise offering. Everyone has been incredibly nice and you can tell this place truly cares about its members. The group fitness room is in EXCELLENT condition, I love the space because it's clean and gorgeous with high ceilings. I'm so excited for my son to be part of the New Canaan YMCA community. After many years... had to make a change ! The basic problem is there is no management of the employees... a few weeks ago I walked into ...both the front desk workers watching TV on their phone . I checked in ....neither of them lifted their eyes off their screens Upstairs is worse ... employees on the cell phone watching TV Paper towels are constantly empty , clean wipes are always empty & cleaner bottles are constantly empty.., God forbid you say something ... you receive the stink eye and no action! At one time they provided towels for the locker room and gym . Both towel services were canceled around the same time as they raised the rates . The locker room at one time was clean. Over time you notice the same dirt stains Never go away... As I understand it , They cut the full time cleaning guys hours ? The worst offense was when I quit via email They said my credit card would not be charged... They confirmed this via e-mail.... Well they continued to try charge my card. This place is a mismanaged horror Membership is over $100 a month it's not worth it ! I waited a few weeks to write this review My new gym is $30 a month less Provides towels and the locker room is spotless. The funny part is I notice at least a dozen ex YMCA members They all have the same story to tell Do Not Join This Place .... Over time you will regret it
