My daughter has been going to Sylvan since March 2024. She started with reading twice a week for a total of 3 hours a week. She completed her program in early September and between my husband, her school teachers and myself we all noticed such excellent progress. My daughter’s confidence has improved as well. She is reading on grade level and reading is no longer a fight at home. The teachers at Sylvan are patient and caring. They have a strong understanding of the schools curriculum and a fantastic way to make learning fun. We decided to stay with sylvan for math as well. We thought the extra reinforcement outside of school would be beneficial to our daughters learning and we were right! They work at a pace that’s comfortable and at a level she understands and is continuing to improving. All and all our experience has been wonderful and we are all grateful for the teachers at Sylvan, their approach to teaching, their support and the growth our daughter has made.

My son just completed the Reading/Writing program with Sylvan. The teachers were patient, understanding, and encouraging to him. They met him at his level and helped him gain confidence, as well as academic achievement. We will forever be grateful for their well-rounded efforts with him. We will all miss seeing their faces every week!

Sylvan Learning Center of Newington has changed my daughter’s life. They have worked with her and given her a first rate tutoring experience. She came to Sylvan with extreme deficits in reading and mathematics but is now at level with her peers. She has developed confidence and got fantastic grades throughout 5th grade year. Update: I understand the Call Center misinformed us. What really upset us was the way Jennifer decided to handle the situation after the fact. She could have expressed her concern for our sons academic level in a different way. After all, we did reach out because we knew our son needed help. I recommend speaking to your clients as we are not the only parents that are unhappy about the experience there. One of the parents over heard her talking to my husband and they were appalled by what and how she said it. My husband and the other parent spoke long enough to help us feel better about our decision not to choose Sylvan. I wish you the best with Jennifer going forward and that no other parents has to experience her unprofessional manner.

We spoke to someone on the phone who informed us we would have online options and made everything sound wonderful.

Jennifer who is the director according to her name tag, was rude, unprofessional and said the representatives at the call centers were not teachers.

You do not have to be a teacher to inform us what options are available to assist our son. She decided to inform us how our son was below grade level once we told her that we would find help for him elsewhere because we were not satisfied with how misinformed we were.

A great place! My experience with this Sylvan Learning Center has been surprisingly easy and comfortable. Michelina the Director, has a genuine interest in helping find the students weakness, via Sylvan testing standards. All to get the student back on track. The initial evaluation for the student is free if you continue in the program (at the time we went). There are other checks and balances in place, such as continued testing which helps determine how the student is progressing, further refining what is or is not needed to further strengthen the students knowledge of the subject. In a relatively short period of time this Sylvan Learning Center had the student scoring above the students grade level. The most important part is the information has been retained by the student.

My granddaughter Arie has been attending Sylvan for approximately 5 weeks and what a difference it is making!! She likes her teachers, enjoys her time there and she's already improving her reading and comprehension ability. The teachers are all patient and care!! I'm glad I was able to enroll her!! PS.. Sylvan of Newington has been more than amazing. My son had missed a high number of days, of kindergarten, due to illness. His school was recommending keeping him back, which I knew would be a very bad decision and would cause him to move backward instead of forward. I did not agree with his school's decision, but was made to feel like my choices were limited. His school was not supportive or helpful when I asked what I could do. I was lost as to what my next step could be. Then a friend suggested Sylvan to me and it was the best choice I could have ever made. It all started with a follow up call from my initial inquiry, I made via their website, about their program. I was on the phone with them for almost an hour while they asked me every question they could to learn about both my son and my needs, not only academically, but also who he was personally. Jennifer and all the teachers genuinely care and have been more than supportive and helpful. They have made me and my son feel more confident in his academic performances and chances and have helped him learn everything he needs and more in a fashion that has him loving and looking forward to reading and writing and learning more and more. Their personal approach creates a plan geard specificlly for him. He's not just another number, which is how I felt when I contacted the other tutoring programs/centers. The lessons are specifically designed for him. Bringing out his strengths and helping with his weaknesses. I highly recommend Sylvan to anyone whos child (or self) needs help and/or support in any facet of their academic career. They are the best of the best and there realy is no other tutoring/learning center that comes close. Thank you to everyone at Newington for helping my son get back to were he needs to be and helping him not only feel like he 'can' do it all, but looking forward to it!
