Our office had two issues with our elevator. There was a safety citation for our elevator and the elevator phone needed to be re-programmed. We relied on Otis for expertise and fair billing to resolve the issue. Instead, Otis fraudulently stated it could assist and is providing an inflated bill that it now claims is unpaid.

Otis sent out estimators to determine if their assistance was needed with connecting wires to resolve the safety issue. Three different Otis estimators determined that their help was needed to the tune of $7470. Further, Otis stated we would need to have another vendor present that was certified in smoke and fire. We authorized Otis being present to work on the smoke and fire wire connections, believing that they were correct that their assistance was required.

It turns out Otis estimators were incorrect about Otis people needing to be present. There was absolutely no work Otis could perform in relation to the safety citation. The work relating to the citation with the State was 100% completed by the 3rd party company that was certified in smoke and fire. The only work that Otis did was to make one phone call to the State inspector to confirm they did not have to take any action on an unrelated portion of the elevator.

For the work to re-program the elevator phone, we pre-paid $881 to Otis to complete this work. When Otis could not re-program the phone, they unilaterally, and without authorization, replaced the phone. Having been caught in fraudulent billing for work it did not perform as to the safety violation Otis is now claiming that the $7470 should be due to pay the work to replace the phone that was NOT authorized, as opposed to the originally quoted citation for the elevator. In addition, Otis has not reimbursed the $881 previously paid for work that was not completed.

Either Otis was negligent in not understanding that Otis employees did not need to be there, or they intentionally approved the job knowing that there was nothing they could do to resolve the citation that we had and were taking advantage of us by billing when it was not necessary.

Otis has reported this $7470 past due bill to credit companies, thereby damaging our reputation, and has refused to write off the bill. I am reporting Otis Elevator Company for improper and false billing practices, and for knowingly or negligently billing for work that is not required.

Our condominium building has 2 Otis elevators, one has been down since July, 2019. Our local Otis representatives agreed to discount the repairs, but any percentage off of nothing is nothing. We have 11 stories with elderly on the highest floors.

Additionally, we have paid for a maintenance agreement that doesn’t seem to be worth the paper it is written on. We have had a consultant review for compliance on Otis’ end. Otis has been negligent in their duties.

Unfortunately, we are not the Empire State Building, therefore can not get a straight answer from anyone.

Otis operates the elevators in our building in denver. Brand new building (Opened Oct 2023) and they constantly go out of service. Apparently they can't keep two basic elevators operational. Avoid at all cost.

OTIS tricked me into agreeing on a previous contract on a building I purchased. They would not let me out of it and it is for 5 years. You pay a fee for nothing and their customer service is terrible.
