Unfortunately I have to give 1 star for this review. A family member of mine was recently transported after having a major surgery followed with several serious complications. Immediately we could tell we would not last long here. The odor and cleanliness was horrendous. The front desk clerk didn’t even bother to check us in or even ensure we were visiting someone - she just continued eating her food behind the desk. The rooms are outdated and often have two patients in each room.

The facility is split between residents and rehab patients which allows people to access any part of the building with zero security personnel. Overall, the staff lacked empathy, had zero communication skills and were incompetent to the level of care required from patient to patient. They stated the antibiotics “might” be ordered and “should” be in tonight. They stated they could not provide a raised toilet seat as it is a liability for them and the patient must be seen and cleared by PT before use. After numerous failed attempts to make progress with the LPN and nurses aide we requested to speak with the RN.

Ultimately we decided this was not the place for our family member and requested an ambulance for transport. The LPN stated if we wanted EMS we could call 911 ourselves and do it - so we did and it was the greatest decision we could have made. Oh and we still never spoke with the RN.

If you love your family or friends make sure they do not go here. If they are currently there please check on them. This place should be investigated and closed.

My mother was there for about 3 weeks and the therapy people was the best. The one person that was over the top, best employee ever was bethney Lee. She went out of her way to make the residents feel better and good. Eric Johnson works in the kitchen and would come to work hours early so that he could say hello to everybody that he could and put a smile on their face. David Johnson activities director was really great for everyone. He shows great care for his residents. Keeps them busy and their minds working. I hope that my mother never needs to go back. These 3 people made it made her the happiest. Employee of the year should be bethney Lee. Thanks for your love and compassion 💖

I am very disappointed in the staff at the Laurels of Gahanna. My mother passed away on the 30th of Dec. I waited 1 week to let things settle with the funeral home to bother the nursing home with getting her belongings. I called before having my daughter get her belongings. I was told she could come at anytime. My daughter gets there and was told they can't find her belongings and anyone can come pic them up, no matter if next of kin, or emergency contact. They don't ask thier names they just give the items to whoever comes. My daughter left, the head of activities, gave her a card for me to call the next morning and had her fill out a paper. I called the next morning and was told they found the items. They were in the housekeepings supervisors office. Okay. I will be up to get them. Daughter went again, was told office was locked. What?
At this point I'm so mad. Mind you we live 1.5 hrs away from the facility. I called and told them once again I would be there about 630-7pm after work to get her items. I was told once again they would be out for someone to have access to get them for me. I get there and this is the 3rd time ...I was given same excuse, no one here has a key to the housekeeping supervisors office. I will say at this point I became very angry. I still stayed very calm, but inside I was so mad. Why is my mother's things in a different closet then any other residents that have passed? I asked if there was anyone in charge ( like a charge nurse or supervisor) that was on duty. They told me no, they don't have anyone on nights. What? No one in charge? That doesn't seem okay. Most medical facilities have a supervisor or someone who is in charge. I have had no sympathy from any one regarding my mother or her things
Everyone's attitudes are like "oh well". Everyone just keeps giving excuses. I asked for my mother's things to be mailed (overnighted) to me. I was told they don't do that either. I am very disappointed in laurels.

*** update, don't be fooled by the "concerning response" from the laurels. I called the number, they said to in their response, and it continuously rang. No answer or voicemail option.

You either get nurses who really care (few of) or those that are just there for a paycheck and make you feel guilty for asking for help with anything. After removal of catheter I requested a beside commode because I didn't feel safe trying to make it to the restroom on one leg and one arm (other extremities were broken and non weight bearing) and almost fell twice. The nurse refused to give me one even though I used one in hospital. I requested that he put in my chart that he was denying my request for a beside commode and he said "I'm not denying you, I just can't give you one". When I finally recieved one, I urinated in it a couple times and wasn't emptied through the night. When I used it again (halfway full) it spilled all over the floor. The nurse took a towel and cleared a path for me to make it to my bed then aimed my fan, that I brought from home, at it and said "that should dry it up". My family then came to visit 5hrs after that happened and discovered the bag they left for me, that had snacks in it, was sitting in a puddle of my urine. I'm posting all this now, putting myself at risk for negative treatment considering i am currently a patient here. I'm doing so because even when you push the call button, on average it takes them 20-30mins to respond. This time it is now 7:55am and I pressed my call button at 7am and still haven't seen anyone. And the passive aggressive treatment is making my stay already awkward and uncomfortable. Not a pleasant stay for any loved ones.

ZERO STARS!!!!!
This is a public service announcement…..DO NOT!!!! DO NOT!!! Don’t bring anyone here for care! There is a lot of Passive Neglect going on at this facility. Also staff is very unprofessional quick to be argumentative, because they aren’t doing their jobs. Passing medication incorrectly and when you make them aware they try to act as if you are the problem. When arrived her medical equipment that they said they could supply was not available took two weeks to get (Bed with rails, toilet commode,Plate guard). No wash cloths! I had to bring some from home. Water was cut off two times during the stay and we were not told before it was cut off. I was given bottles of water to heat up in microwave that also is used for heating patient food. Had to call ambulance two times to get accurate blood pressure readings. The second time they came patient was transported to the hospital. With that being said patient will Never go back to the laurels of Gahanna!!!! To the employees remember you should be there because it’s your Passion Not for a Pay Check!

I hate to say it but I really enjoyed my stay there. They had all the special equipment that I need. The staff was very nice. Most of them have a great super sense of humor. The day time nurse , I can't recall her name, was very attentive, knowledgeable and thought me alot about my illness.
People say that the facility smells. Absolutely not true. I would send my fam n friends here and I would come back too.

Thank you to everyone that I worked with..
