We have passed the sign on the interstate telling you where to exit for the John & Annie Glenn Museum, but had never stopped. We were staying at Salt Fork State Park and decided to check it out. What a pleasant surprise! Besides getting to travel a portion of the National Road, visiting the campus of Muskingim college, and seeing the quaint town of New Concord, we took a guided tour of John Glenn's childhood home.
The tour begins on the lower level, accessed from the back parking lot, with a brief video summarizing John Glenn's life. You then go to the main level where a volunteer gives a short introduction. After a knock on the door, you are welcomed into the Glenn home by John Glenn's father.
Mr. Glenn walks you through the home, telling you about life in the Glenn home in the 1940s. The home is full of actual photos, artifacts, and period pieces specific to the Glenn family and life in New Concord.
You then go to the 2nd floor where 4 themed rooms have displays regarding the astronaut/ senator's life, wife, and accomplishment.
The tour took about 2 hours. The staff was very knowledgeable, and the re-enactor representing Herschel Glenn was amazing.
We were very impressed and so glad we took the time to visit.

The museum is excellent and nostalgic, with informative films and artefacts and available guided tours that offer a great educational experience into John & Annie Glenn and their contributions to America.

What a gem. It was a really great memorial to a man who served America his entire life. His humility and accomplishment is an example for all Americans.
His boy hood home is lovingly recreated. And the living historians did a wonderful job bringing the entire Glenn family to life.
So much of Glenn's life was lived in the spotlight of public scrutiny that you would think something would raise its ugly head to scar the man. Well, the spotlight revealed a man who was a man apart and above. His wife was a full partner and contributor.
To think that Ohio gave the world the Wrights, Armstrong and Glenn is almost unbelievable.
In Glenn's room, I found myself looking at his boy hood bed and wondering how many nights he dreamed about going into space.
Veterans and active duty enter for free.spe ial pricing for others. Plentiful parking. Excellent wheelchair access. Elevator to travel the 3 stories.
Godspeed, John Glenn.

John & Annie Glenn Museum. Astronaut John Glenn was the first person to fly around the Earth. He completed three orbits that lasted over four hours. He traveled 75,679 miles at about 17,500 miles an hour, 162 miles above the Earth. He had also set a new record for a transcontinental flight at three hours, 28 minutes, and 8.4 seconds. He also flew back into space aboard a space shuttle at the age of 77 while serving as a US Senator. We watched a 20 minutes video and was given a tour. The gift shop had unique items. The docents were friendly and knowledgeable. This is the house he grew up in. His wife Annie had a speech impediment and eventually overcame it. A speech school was named after her and the list in the pictures of enrollment graduates may surprise you.

I was driving along National Road, which is today U. S. Highway 40. One of the towns that I was lucky enough to visit was New Concord, Ohio. As I was driving through town, I saw a sign for the John & Annie Glenn Historical Site. Not being in any hurry, I decided to stop and visit. This is the home where Astronaut and Senator John Glenn grew up. Parking down a side street behind the home. I entered on the lower level of the home and was greeted by a very nice lady who welcomed me and explained how the tour worked. I paid my $6.00 senior admission and began my tour by watching a short film which was interesting and informative. After the video I made my way upstairs where the home has been returned to it’s 1962 appearance. The house features period furnishings and several artifacts that belonged the Glenn’s. This was a wonderful tour and I ended up spending a little over an hour on site. Everyone associated with this site immerses themselves in telling the fascinating story of Senator and Mrs. Glenn. It was a wonderful story, and I would encourage anyone who is in the area to stop and visit the John and Annie Glenn Historical Site.

Although temporarily closed, this quick stop on a long trip made my son's day! He worships John Glenn. We hope they reopen to the public soon, and we will definitely stop by next time we're in the area.
