I’ve officially made Amanda at Grissom Hair my go-to stylist — and the difference is night and day. Amanda is reliable, professional, and understands the expectations that come with being a working model. In fact, for extra compensation, she’s now agreed to accompany me on photoshoots and tours to ensure my appearance remains consistent across campaigns.

That’s what real professionals do.

Unfortunately, my experience with Modern Academy was the complete opposite.

After personally visiting to thank my student stylist — and to let her know her work would be featured in a national magazine advertisement — I was later informed that I had somehow upset or offended her. No one would tell me how or why. Instead of resolving the issue with a conversation, Modern chose to ghost me. Appointments were silently canceled repeatedly without notice. I was embarrassed on the phone when I called in to find out what was going on. And finally, this was the response I received from the owners:

Let’s be clear — this isn’t about vanity.
This is about livelihood.
My image is part of my career. When your inconsistency affects my brand — and you dismiss it as an “inconvenience” — that tells me all I need to know.

Modern had a real opportunity here: to showcase their students’ work in a national spotlight and build a professional relationship with someone active in the modeling and fitness industries. Instead, they chose silence, avoidance, and blame.

Thank God for stylists like Amanda who treat their clients — and their craft — with real respect.

To anyone who takes their appearance seriously as part of their career: skip Modern. You can’t afford the risk.

3 hair cuts were good. 1 hair cut was not even close to what she asked for!!! She even had pictures of the cut she wanted!!Very disappointed!! Now she is asking if i can take her somewhere else so they can make it look better!! Also washed 2 of the girls hair without asking if I wanted that service!! 30.00 for a wash and a cut at a college seems a little high! Especially when you didn't ask for it!!

Was made an appointment and was told to go to the building on Seminary street. No one there tried calling the number multiple times to see where to go but no answer. Went to the building on the website no one there. I’m sure they’re nice people and they’re moving but to me it’s important to correctly tell you where to go.

I had a balayage, it turned out great and even went back to go even brighter! They are monitoring the girls and you can tell they all love it there! I had to bring my 3 year old with me last couple times and they are all so sweet. They went above and beyond, everyone helped keep an eye on him and helped him with his show or game when I had to get my hair washed. I have nothing but good things to say about the school!

Madison did amazing job on my color. I recently moved here and do not have a stylist and needed my hair colored. My first time ever going to a school. I will for sure be returning for color again this fall!

Got a haircut and my toe nails polished for $15. Really nice women training there and working diligently to learn their craft and provide excellent service. The place is gorgeous inside and has a relaxing vibe to it. I will definitely be back!
