Staff was super friendly and welcoming!! Some of the nicest people ever 😊 I would recommend Acacia to anyone seeking TMS!! I did the accelerated HOPE-TMS program, so I only stayed there for 5 days. This was very helpful because I am about an hour and a half away from Sunnyvale and I start school soon, so I don't have the time to go there every day for however many weeks the regular program is. The clinic is very clean and accessible. Staff sometimes brings their pets and there is a plant wall, which is very fun and makes the environment more homey. 5/5 ❤️ I hope everyone reading this heals from their troubles.

For 15 years, I had a severe, unresponsive major depression that absolutely interfered with all areas of my and my family’s lives.
I also had “psychomotor retardation”, a symptom of major depression for 10 years. This symptom causes extreme slowing of thought, speech and movement. There were times when I was unable to walk or move much at all. Completing tasks was very difficult. I was forced to retire about 10 years too soon, so I lost a lot of potential income.

I’d had major depressions before in response to various traumata. This one was also in response to a major betrayal combined with treachery, and it didn’t respond to ANYTHING—not psychotherapy, meds, ECT, rTMS—nothing. It was v. painful.

By chance, I noticed an article about the SAINT method and knew it might be right for me. I flew across the country to CA to get 10 days of treatment. 10 days was thought to be better for me b/c of the severity and length of my depression.
Medicare didn’t cover it at the time so I had to pay out of pocket for it. It was a lot of money, but worth every dime since it worked immediately and well. It’s been 2.5 years now with no recurrences.
The doctors and the staff are all great. I highly recommend this clinic and this therapy!

I ADVISE AGAINST IF YOU HAVE SEVERE TREATMENT RESISTENT DEPRESSION

Staff and technicians were very friendly, B but unfortunately I could not reach remission after 1.5 rounds of the HOPE-TMS (I was graciously given a free second trial by Doctor Carreon, who has been extremely helpful in the process, but I unfortunately could not finish the second week because I quite frankly could not get out of bed at that point as a result of my condition getting worse).

Sad because family had to spend large amount of money ($36k) for this accelerated TMS, and I feel it all went to naught; we are still trying to make up that debt back.

Main reason I rated quite poorly is my lack of remission and the large amount of money we paid for essentially nothing to happen. Hoping prices improve over time; I think it is pretty unreasonable in proportion to service provided, especially if there is no improvement seen at all (If I had to give a statistic, I only gained around 1% improvement, which is negligible).

I’m sure this treatment has helped many other people and I am glad for them, and I simply must be the exception, so this has frustrated me in my mental health journey for I now have to drop out of school etc. i don’t think my mind is suitable to keep up with day-to-day life, nor is normal life sustainable for me. I just want to go back to living my life as normal like it was when I was younger!

But it seems like the mortal toils of the modern day gripped its clutch on me and has kept me tethered to this nightmarish reality, where I can’t just up and do the stuff I’ve always wanted to do, will I always be held back by these maladaptive genes? by the fact I simply cannot do anything without experiencing a full night insomnia, do not have enough energy for the day like I used to, all point in the direction I have not improved. I will probably have to go on pills now, which is exactly what I did not want to do, because they blunt you and make you feel less than human, and is this really the price I want to pay to get back to some semblance of mental stability?

I am simply rating my personal experience. I wish anyone using this service good luck, but I would advise against if you know you or your family members have a history of Treatment Resistant Depression like I do.

I highly and wholeheartedly recommend Acacia Mental Health Clinic as a place that offers alternative methods for treating mental illness. As a Canadian who travelled all the way to Sunnyvale for treatment, I assure you that it has been a thoroughly worthwhile experience.

Having struggled many years with a mood disorder and being resistant to the majority of common medications, I have been existing day to day with fatigue, sadness and insomnia which has impacted my personal and work life. Each day I felt dead or dying, for three decades. I was in a darkened silo tight around me. Beginning in the 70's meds were prescribed, over and over but they never undercut my pain. Paid soothing words had a half-life less than my drive home. Meditation sat still without an effect on the Whatever lodged in me which ate instantly any germ of peace or hope, let alone happiness. Yoga, group meetings; LSD, ketamine, religious conversion, alcohol, divorce, nothing tamped down this steady flow of ache until I started running marathons in 1993. They lifted the fog and swaddled warm light around me. Life was fine, even great, for 15 years until a big enough stroke ended my running.
