Excellent experience with ASA Catamaran course in the US Virgin Islands. Captain Chris Cooper is a super qualified instructor - learned a lot about sailing during the week. Also greatly reinforced the 3 previous ASA courses I'd taken. Boat was a 42 ft Fountain Pajot charter - very nice. Highly recommended.

I took the VHF radio class today. Chris did a great job. I wanted to know how to use the DSC system and he explained it in detail and we had a good conversation on scenarios when it should be used. Now I feel much more comfortable with the radio on my boat. I have taken many ASA classes taught by Chris, starting my sailing with 101 and continuing with 103 and 105. I definitely recommend Chris as a sailing instructor and his anchors aweigh sailing school.

Just completed my ASA 103 with Captain Chris Cooper and it was a great experience. The classroom instruction was organized and well presented. The hands on instruction was thorough and extensive too, with free time given on the second day for the class to choose any skills we wanted extra practice on. I left the weekend feeling like I learned a ton. Highly recommend!

I can’t say enough positive things about Chris Cooper, and anchors away sailing school… From the professionalism and experience to the friendliness and camaraderie this school gets high marks on all points. I went from knowing very little about sailomg to owning my own boat, and feeling quite confident on it in the last two years in large part thanks to this school.

I couldn’t have had a better experience sailing for the first time. Captain Chris provided a safe, respectful, welcoming, and inclusive environment. I attended ASA 101. For those of you wanting to get started, consider this school. Captain Chris is amazing and provides you with feedback on how to get more comfortable with sailing. I’m looking forward to signing up for more sailing hours through this school.

Chris is a very experienced mariner, having spent most of his life at sea. He brings an enormous amount of real world experience and practicality to his teaching, and his enthusiasm and enjoyment of sailing are obvious.

When you choose Chris at Anchors Aweigh, not only will you receive the right instruction, but you will also benefit from his practical insights, focus on marine and vessel safety, and real world experience. You will go beyond the course content and graduate a much better and rounded sailor. And very importantly, you will have fun along the way.

For me, Chris has opened up the world of sailing and made it accessible to me. I can not recommend him highly enough.

What a great experience! Day 1 of his class I knew pretty much nothing about a sailboat or how it operates (aside from what I read and tried to understand), by the end of Day 2 I had the terminology pretty much down pat and I understood how to safely sail and navigate. Chris is an incredibly patient instructor and I loved how he allowed students to learn through experiential learning, if you were doing something wrong he waited until you noticed so you could self-correct (of course if it was dangerous he would step right in). The highlight of my experience was parking his boat back at the dock, I impressed myself! I wish I had it on video because my husband would never believe how well I parked it LOL.

Thank you Captain Chris fir a great weekend! I’m already looking forward to the next class!

Exceptional experience. This was my first real sailing experience and Chris made it an exceptional one. My walk away is exactly what I hoped for, to understand what to do and when and to feel confident that I could sail safely. The material (mostly terminology) is significant but Chris makes it make sense and ties it all together on the boat. I learned a lot and am very anxious to sign up for the next level. Chris is clearly passionate about sailing and extremely experienced but he has a true gift for bringing it down to a level that a beginner can easily understand…. And he is very patient and supportive if you don’t pick it up right away. Highly recommended this sailing school.
