Serving Patients Breakfast on a Saturday for Supper is a joke. Biscuit, One small sausage patty and cold grits. Get for real. I have had to bring my love one food from the outside two to three times a day for now going on her fourth week. The person running this place will be reported. I've seen people in prison get better food.

Feeding an elderly woman on chipped glass plates, severe dehydration, wrong medications, failing to give physical exams, giving her Tylenol when it could kill her from her medication she takes. Overall terrible sloppy care. Elderly abuse to the extreme. The family had to have an emergency transfer to another facility. And obviously from the reviews this is just the tip of an iceberg. Don’t send anyone here.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE THERE! My mom was there 20 days for rehab after a hospital stay. When she arrived she could walk and go to the bathroom on her on but by the time she left she was in worse shape then when she arrived. After a few days we noticed she seemed out of it. We thought it was her medication the doctor had given her so we asked for her medication to be lowered because she was so out of it but there was no improvement. We found out after a week and a half when I questioned the nurse why she was like this and was told she was on a tranquilizer. Us nor her doctor authorized this! I told her to not give this to my mom anymore. I talked to the physical therapist to see how she was doing and was told she is unable to do her therapy because she is so out of it. I told her about them medicating mom. When I would arrive in the evening to see her she would be soaking wet from sitting in her urine and feces most of the day. This was a daily occurrence. We sent her there to get better not worse. If you are an elderly person they will not take care of them. The food there was terrible also, we would bring food for mom to eat. She lost 10 pounds while she was there. I have terrible guilt now because of how my mom was treated there.

I originally wrote a review in February 2024 after my mother stayed here short term (actually it's the associated "Restore Therapy Pavillion at Athens Rehab" next door).. My mother is back here in May of 2025 and I wanted to add some stars and update my impressions.

I had a mildly negative impression from her first visit for short term rehab .. but faced with choosing short term rehab again in 2025, we came back to Athens due to proximity to our house. I think my much more favorable opinion this time is partly due to better separating mom's health setback (which is obviously a zero star experience, lol) from the quality of care that has been given. The other change in my appraisal is from what seems like a much much better environment this time. The ratios of nursing staff to patients is really good now.. From button push to getting someone in the room is usually 5-10 minutes.. at worst 15 maybe? And everyone has a positive attitude, here to help.. even with the needs of a patient that has memory and mobility issues.. The food is institutional food, but there's enough good items on the plate, and vegetables. As I wrote in 2024 - the best thing you can do is spend as much time with your patient as possible, and be ready to order meals from outside if needed. I've had the opportunity to stay here most days and have made friends with the nursing and therapy staff... They are all really caring people. The therapists are top notch - very educated, they explain it all to me, and dedicated to helping us get mom home. Would bring my mother here again based on our experience this time.

First, how I wish there was an option for zero stars. It's taken me months to write this review, mainly because the simple act of looking this place up and seeing the name absolutely sickens me.

Our experience while my mother was in their care was the single worst thing I've gone through in my life. I'm not sure I will ever be able to forgive myself for trusting the staff in the long-term care facility. I will say that the care at the Rehab facility was fine, actually really good, but when my mothers insurance required a transfer to the long-term care facility, we had an entirely different experience.

Please, I beg of you, please take your time and understand exactly what you're getting into before you allow your loved one to go into the long-term care facility at Athens Health and Rehabilitation. Go visit, unannounced if they will let you in. Insist on going into the long-term care facility. Pay attention to what you see and ask a lot of questions. I would encourage you to ask challenging questions of the staff, particularly the managers who work hands-on with the residents. Please pay attention to what you see and hear, and take nothing for granted.

If you do end up allowing your loved one to enter this place, please visit daily and be super involved. Insist daily on seeing your loved ones' records. Insist on getting a printout of EXACTLY what meds and treatments were given that day. Be nice to the staff and get to know them, try to help with the care of your loved one. Do this every single day. If something seems off, please trust your gut.

My family did all of the above, except for insisting on printouts of the meds given each day. I would do almost anything to be able to go back in time and do this.

People typically go to places like this when they are at the end of their lives. I get that. But no one should have to go through what we watched my mother go through while we watched in horror, desperately trying to figure out why she digressed so rapidly and how to help her when she was suddenly unable to communicate. We finally got answers after I finally insisted on calling 911 and took her to the hospital. Like I said, I’m not sure I will ever be able to forgive myself.

I know this is such a challenging time of life and everyone has different situations. I also realize what a tough job it is to work in this type of environment.

Please just take the time to understand what long-term care does and what it does not do and stay on top of your loved ones care.

We have used Athens Rehab for my Dad after his last 2 surgeries. They have very caring and comprehensive during both of his recoveries. Lory and her team were so helpful negotiating admission and the insurance quagmire. They made a difficult situation and his transition from the hospital as seamless as possible. The nurses and PT staff took exceptional care of Dad and worked very had to make sure he was comfortable and we were well informed of his progress. I highly recommend the team at Athens Rehabilitation, and thank them so much for their caring and compassion towards my dad and us all.

My mom was in the facility a few months back and received excellent care. Everyone from nursing to Rehab treated her like family and made sure she received the care she needed. I would recommend this facility to anyone.

I will echo what another reviewer posted and take it further: I wouldn't put my worst enemy's dog here. My mother was in this facility after a brain bleed and while the CNAs and nursing staff tried their best, the patient to staff ratio was just too much. She wouldn't get a bath or shower for days. No one was available to prepare her food. Ex: given a large piece of uncut meat that she couldn't cut herself. She would just not eat if a family member was not there with her. One of the PTs was an absolute nightmare and did not treat her with any level of respect. No care, no compassion. The director of the facility is a joke. We had a meeting with an advocate and he spoke out both sides of his face. Nothing but broken promises. He needs to learn to take care of his staff and his patients because he isn't doing his job. His staff and patients deserve better than this man is delivering. It's disgraceful.

Meds are handled improperly. They were given a directive not to give her ambien at night but come to find out she was given ambien along with a narcotic several nights and was barely conscious the next day. When the nurse was asked about it she stated the mix of meds could be deadly.

Do not put your family here!!
