Sean Smith called the Baxter County VSO office on 10/12 @ 1150am, 7 days prior to the death of his grandfather (my deepest sympathies for your loss). Mr. Smith asked about a ramp and benefits for his grandfather. Due to law, which is established by congress, veterans are not eligible just because they are a veteran. Criteria needs met, for instance a ramp may be authorized if the veteran has a service connected disability & is in a wheelchair or if the veteran has VA healthcare. If these criteria are not met then a veteran may have to try and get a grant. As far as benefits, i.e., healthcare this is sometimes based on the veterans financial status, again just because the individual is a veteran does not mean they are eligible for benefits. In every instance discharge paperwork needs to be provided for verification & if not available then a request via online can be made to the archives in St Louis, this is currently the quickest way to make a request.

Charles Leonard is pure unadulterated awesome sauce! I have recently retired from the Navy after 22 years and he has bent over backwards to help me with my VA issues and concerns. He even went further, informing me of other benefits I could take advantage of in the local area. HOOYAH Charles!!!

The apathy from this rep is a horrible service to veterans and their families. My grandfather died waiting to hear back from the VA. Leonard says “use a computer”.
