This is a great dive spot in Alabama! I did a dry suit certification here with SDI out of Huntsville, and came back for some other recreational open water dives with friends. This was my second quarry and it’s much clearer than the first I went to, but most of my dive experience is in the Florida springs so I would not personally call this clear water lol. Visibility was better in the morning and in general ranged from about 8-15 feet.

I dove with a 3mm even in June because the thermocline is pretty intense; it was a little too warm with the wetsuit at the surface but a little too cold below 40ish feet so I hovered around 30-35 feet. Admission fee and rentals are reasonably priced.

Access points are on either side of the quarry down a steep paved incline. There’s docks with shallow platforms for gearing up as well as some platforms at deeper levels for training. It wasn’t too busy the days I was there but during training weekends I’ve heard the viz gets horrible and it’s packed. Things to see include old cars, boats, and a small plane among other things, and there’s some catfish and other small freshwater fish.

As an Instructor, it’s very important to me what kind of Open Water environment my students experience for the first time. Blue Water Park provides that great experience. The staff is excellent. The facility is top notch. Plenty to see underwater. The park is perfect for training new divers. Sure we’d all rather be in South FLA, the Keys or Caribbean, but Blue Water Park provides a safe, clean and beautiful facility for landlocked divers.

Great place for new divers to explore the underwater world! Cool things to see at various depths and a lot of friendly experienced divers around to offer advice or help. The shop is stocked for last minute equipment, but if you need a full setup you'll need to rent. Air fills were remarkably fast and all of the staff were very friendly and very helpful. I can't wait to go again!

Fun place to dive! Went here to finish up certification. They’ve got all kinds of cool stuff on the bottom to check out. Even a plane. Everyone was nice and friendly. Water is nice and cool.
