This review is not to bash this school because I did receive the licensing I desired, I would like to just warn others before considering Branford Academy. To begin, the kits this school provides are atrocious, They at first tell you it’s necessary to buy these overpriced kits and then proceed to never open them in class and make it so that you must buy your own higher quality materials to be able to learn in class. The teacher her self stated the kits were worthless and impossible to learn with. Not to mention the girls in my class did not receive text books until a month into class and all of our kits were missing alot of materials.
Secondly, cleanliness. There were days i would come into school and see the same wrapper in the corner of the classroom as last week and for more weeks to come. one day me and my classmates decided to move this empty drawer because it sounded like a cricket had ran inside just to find mice droppings all under the drawer. We left the drawer moved hoping a cleaning crew would see it and clean it but it was there the next week.
This school is disorganized and way over priced. every issue we tried to complain about was ignored. Just by reading the responses to the bad reviews you can see how helpful they are. Hope this helps at least one person to not make my mistake !

I recently had my hair done at the Bridgeport location. The facility is really well appointed. The student that did my hair, Anniyah, was professional, talented and clearly loves what she is being trained to do. Her instructor D'Andre demonstrated the skills and patience of a dedicated teacher. I plan to return again and again!

The administration needs to learn to not talk to people like they are the scum on the bottom of their shoe. Nothing is ever the managements fault. Nothing. It’s always a teacher or a student the blame falls on. It’s your school SO EVERYTHING not going correctly is your fault. Nobody should have to tell you about what’s going on in YOUR school. It’s ridiculous and annoying. Find another school. This one is not it

Ian single handedly walked me through all of the steps it would take for me to get into the Barber industry. He also let me know if I pursued my interest it would be beneficial to continue with the school because of their contacts and deep rooted connections in the industry.

I also had my hair cut because I was already there and it came out amazing, worth the trip, through and through.

So glad I brought my seven year old here when she decided to cut her hair for a donation to Locks For Love. The staff was wonderful and supportive. My daughter felt like a star and LOVED the end result. We will definitely return when it grows out for another donation. Thanks again. Diane & Randee

I have had great wash ,cuts and blow dries with Branford Academy students. I’ve been going here for at least 6 years and only once had a bad cut and blow dry because the student did NOT listen to how I wanted it cut and styled. She insisted on a side part which I never wear and the blow dry came out with frizzinest and was damp underneath. The teacher DID come over and give her instructions but It was my fault for not speaking up. She also hadn’t been a student there very long. Upon getting ready to leave the teacher questioned me asking if that was what I had wanted. She just knew , because it didn’t look good at all. I just wanted to leave and go home and try to fix it , lol. But other than that experience the kids ( to me -students) really do want to get it right and take pride in their work! And staff does check in while they are working. I’ve had many compliments on my hair after leaving there and having gone to expensive salons when I was employed friends and family had NO IDEA I hadn’t been to the pricey salon that I’ve always gone to , until I told them! The place definitely needs upgrading and newer everything but that is not the fault of the teachers or students! It’s the owners fault who should upgrade and not be so cheap and selfish! Having my hair done here was the exact thing I needed. It was speedy and excellent service. I was referred by Ian Brown, I didn’t realize that it was going to be such a professional establishment. So glad I went!!!

Hands down best experience I’ve had in a long time.

Everything seemed fine except my stylist blowdried my long color treated hair without putting any product in it and said she didn’t have anything this was just a school I think my hair got fried while it was being blow dried. The instructors just walked around and did nothing and didn’t help her when I asked about product they came over and put some in but my stylus is almost finished. I would not return I would go to the Paul Mitchell School North Haven instead. Just don’t know why the instructors didn’t help. That’s what they’re there for.
Much better at the Paul Mitchell School North Haven except it takes a lot longer there.
