Boyle Heights Is Home To Los Angeles Oldest Jewish Community East Of The L.A. river until the 30’s. The synagogue is in dire need of attention and repair. The original plans to turn this place of worship into a museum representing the history of Boyle Heights seems to be still up in the air.
It is important to note when entering the Breed Street Shul...to bring a yarmulke. A sign of respect.

There is a small little museum in the former Beit Midrash (chapel) at the back. It definitely needs to be upgraded and augmented so that it draws visitors and gives a fuller picture of the history of this important Jewish icon in Los Angeles. Worth a visit.

a beautiful forgotten and it appears disintegrating Temple of the Jewish faith in Boyle Heights. The neighborhood has a 'depressed' appearance by US standards. It is an example of the social commentary that underlays Richard "Cheech" Marins character in the film "Born In East LA"..

It was so awesome. Grew up in Boyle and learned so much about it's history. It was awesome. A lot of the exhibit was like a trip down memory lane.

Was not able to go inside as it is under renovation. But a very historic synagogue and worth visiting. Great Mexican food in this neighborhood!
