Canine Companions for independence North Central Training Center treats people right. They do a good job with the dogs, too. Of the 3 regional offices we have worked with at Canine Companions, the staff has the welcoming attitude we prefer. Not throwing shade on the other regions, but there’s a reason staff here has tenure lasting decades. Best service dogs on the planet and all provided free to the recipients. Fantastic community to belong to.

This place is amazing, Jennifer. You need to stop trying to make it a big deal. That your child was disrespected . I've been disrespected a lot. Yes, it was wrong for the staff to laugh at your child's disability. But I believe that's not the only time He will be disrespected. Because of his disability. Canine Companions is the best. Thank you so much for your help and the love you have on dogs and us. I appreciate it and hope to see you grow and blossom into an amazing organization.

I feel that this company is more geared towards placing facility dogs with professional individuals. I do, however, feel that when it comes to disabled people, they prefer certain demographics. I also feel this organization lacks compassion and appropriate staff members for certain roles.
My child went through the entire application process and was even accepted onto the wait list. But due to the unprofessionalism and judgment we received when we sat down for our one on one interview, we were scared away. The staff member even found amusement in my child's disability and laughed at him.
We did email a very detailed description of the whole interaction back when we were accepted. Describing the conversation, interaction, and how we felt. Including that we thought this program wasn't meant for our child.
It took nearly 2 weeks for a response, and we were essentially told; That the behavior of the staff member wasn't typical for her. And that they wish us luck moving forward with a different organization.
We weren't sure why it was important for us to be informed that the behavior of the staff member during the one-on-one interview wasn't typical for her. That doesn't change the experience that we had with her or make our experience less hurtful. And honestly, I just wish that we had more of a compassionate response. Such as "I'm so sorry to hear about your experience. If there is anything we can do to clear up any misunderstandings or to reassure you about our organization, we would love to discuss further." or something of that nature. But nonetheless, we didn't get a very compassionate response.
I guess I expected more from an organization geared toward improving the lives of people with disabilities. Especially since most of you who have gone through or are currently going through the application process are aware, it is a lengthy process. Our son's time was just wasted, and most importantly, he was disrespected.

False advertising on the ADI website about who they provide service dogs for. Also, why do they not provide service dogs to adults with autism or civilians with PTSD? You know that adults can still be disabled by their autism and that not only veterans have PTSD right? Very unethical and unprofessional.
