My daughter participated in the 4-6 year old group and had such a great experience. Ocean safety and awareness is very important to us as we live in an ocean town and spend significant time at the beach. The earlier the better that our kids are exposed, so we were so excited to hear he was offering classes to younger kids.
Jack is so kind and gentle with the little ones while still holding very firm to his expectations of them around the water. He pushed the kids to get past fears and also knew when they just needed a break.
I can’t recommend his programs enough. We are already signed up for another session.

Jack Akrop's Central Coast Waterman's Association offers a variety of surfing and ocean safety courses, and it is easily the best camp I have ever put my kids into. Jack is one of the top big wave surfers in the world and he is respected internationally both for his surfing and lifeguarding skills.
I have 45 years' experience surfing around the Santa Cruz area and I am also a high school teacher, so I am very conscientious at who is going to teach my children especially when it comes to surfing and ocean safety. Jack and his team are amazing instructors with many years of surfing and lifeguarding experience and although I have taught my kids a lot about the ocean, they just absorb the information so much better when it is taught from someone else.
After taking Jack's camp, I immediately noticed that my kids were more confident and relaxed in the ocean because they had learned about the possible dangers and what to do in those situations. As a parent, this was very reassuring.
Jack and his team are also amazing people who are incredibly motivating, and their positive energy is felt by all of their students.
I am such a believer in Jack and his courses, I want to take a class with him so he can teach me more about breath control in heavy surf.
I highly recommend his course to everyone who wants their children to become safer and more confident in the ocean. I would also recommend it to adults who want to learn ocean safety and how to surf.

CCWA has changed the lives of my family in the calmness of how its founder Jack models his values - where the ocean is the medium. He is passionate about the environmental and life skills he is practicing in the service of kids of *all* abilities. Jack is a pro surfer focused on all the water can teach us: respect, humility, encouragement, structure and creativity, risk taking...exactly what is being implemented through the CCWA program. Highly recommend the CCWA team if this sounds like an environment you want to introduce your kids to.

My son Weston did the 4-6 yr old camp this summer and is thriving. He loved it so much we signed up for another week. Watching the whole class progress daily is so fun to watch. Jack is very patient, knowledgeable and great with the kids. Highly recommend this camp for all ages!?

Jack has really inspired our son to enjoy the ocean. It's a lifelong gift, and he has been not only wonderful to his surfing growth, but he's a great mentor to our son and treats me with respect everytime I see him. For anyone with acchild looking to learn surfing in Santa Cruz, you could only be so lucky to have found Jack as we did.

Jack is the ultimate local. He found us loading up surfboards one day and offered his contact if we wanted lessons. Turns out Jack knew some of our extended family and friends! He is a talented athlete AND a gifted instructor. He taught my twin boys how to be more aware, safe and stronger in the ocean. Jack taught them how to navigate the surf in a way that has elevated their skill on a wave and also their ability to pay attention to all the factors around them. They enjoyed a week long summer camp so much with Jack that we stayed for a second week. Jack and his team have an in depth approach to teaching all aspects of what it means to be a surfer while keeping it fun and positive. My boys had a blast and are all around smarter in the water thanks to Jack and his team! Thank you, Jack!

Jack is a wonderful resource who not only greets my son with excitement for the sea, but he has also filled a void in my parenting that I didn't know I needed. His methodical program has allowed our son to become comfortable and knowledgeable in the water. On the surface his students are learning to surf yes, but underneath the surface his students are learning a plethora of life skills that will carry them into adulthood. We are so grateful for our referral to Jack, and likewise we pass his name daily. My eight year old son is thrilled to be on the path to surfing!

I feel so lucky to have such an amazing program right here in Santa Cruz for my son to go to. My 8 year old is in his second year of the summer camp and we will be back every year that Jack is running his program! I feel its important that my son learns how to respect and navigate the ocean and also feel comfortable and have fun! This program is doing just that. I see my son is gaining confidence in himself and he has learned so much- from ocean safety, how to read ocean conditions, breathing techniques, surfing… the list goes on! They spend a lot of time in the water and the kids love it! They manage the differences in kids ages well and they group them up accordingly and it seems to work really nicely. Jack is an awesome teacher! He has a confident, calm and warm demeanor. The kids look up to him. He is extremely professional as well- an all around great mentor for these kids. The other instructors are equally as great. My son gets pretty nervous in new situations but I saw right away all of the instructors were very welcoming and my son told me he feels like he belongs here! How awesome is that?! They are supportive of each other and inclusive to all and I absolutely love it.
In my opinion, one of the best water/surf programs in Santa Cruz County by far!
