This review is not about the CFIs or teaching provided at Double Bridges, however my experience may reflect on the quality of instruction provided at the FBO. I walked in 25 JUN 2019 to get information on aircraft rental rates and availability. All of the paperwork was as expected, except for providing Proof of Insurance. I have never had nor have had to provide proof of insurance for any aircraft I have ever rented from any FBO. So I proceeded to question the receptionist on what exactly I was providing insurance for and what insurance agency would typically provide that type of insurance. The type of questions anyone would ask because it is the aircraft owner's responsibility to provide insurance for the aircraft not the renter. The receptionist tried to explain to me that it was the same as if I had rented a car or an apartment which is untrue and circumstantial. For instruction and solo operations their insurance policy should cover student and renter liability. I asked her why they required this and she said , "Because we've had students taxi out of the hangar and knock a wing off and other people taxi off the runway or into something." It was put to me in a way like it was my fault and I was crazy for asking the question. She also said, " Why would we put something like that on our insurance if you should also have insurance." At this point red flags were up because not only could my questions not be answered knowledgeably but what flight school or FBO would want to or try to put that obligation on their customers. If they cannot afford an umbrella insurance policy for everyone involved that should make a professionals ears perk up. Look personal rental insurance is great when you need it but you cannot expect anyone or a customer to pay a yearly premium " just because" you said so. If that's the case I would want to know their deductible and where exactly I would need coverage and how much if at all and in what areas. Based on where their policy falls short. Otherwise we are all just throwing money away unknowingly. All in all if you must use Double Bridges Aviation for whatever your needs may be I would ask to see a copy of their insurance policy and see exactly what you are getting yourself into. If you are a professional aviator I would run in the opposite direction. - I am a commercial rated instrument pilot and DoD aviator
