DO NOT SIGN UP HERE. Been a member for over 2 years, and it’s gone downhill since the manager Chris Jordan left (he was THE GOAT). The new manager, Asfaris, made everything much worse. Equipment is broken much more frequently, the bathroom is insanely dirty, and missing equipment (been asking for a landmine t bar row handle forever). I’ve referred two friends who are now members, and I brought in a 3rd, and the manager, Hector, treated us extremely rudely. Kept grilling us about if the rec cen is closed (it was open), and scoffed at us. I told him I’ve been going to this location for over 2 years and that i’ve referred 2 people before, but he kept talking down to us. When I asked for an apology, he smirked at us and said no. This dude has no business being a manager, immature asf, should be replaced. BRING BACK CHRIS JORDAN. 2 years ago, this place used to be the best, it did nothing special, but did the basics well - clean facility, pristine equipment, and kind employees (Dolan was the best). Now, they don’t even do the basics well and it’s always busy! Save 60 a month and don’t go here.

The gym is clean, well maintained, and seems to have all the equipment a person would need to stay fit.

However, one impolite trend I see rapidly increasing is this: young people get on a piece of equipment and PARK THERE for minutes on end to play with their iPhones. Then they do a few reps, taking a looong rest to recover, still sitting on the equipment to play many minutes more to with their phones. This behavior is epidemic now. I am not joking. For older patrons who just want access to the machines, this behavior is a nuisance. We come to work out and then get on with the things we have to do with our day.

Could you please post signs or something to ask members to get off the machines if they are not actually using them?

Yours,
elona masson

Absolutely Love Golds Gym and all the amenities that they have to offer. The staff is very friendly and our always able to help me with any questions I might have regarding equipment or the services available...For $60 a month,, I can't think of a better gym to join.

My friends Nessa and Gabi had a terrible experience at Gold’s Gym in Goleta. They was promised a free week trial, but the staff pushed them into a $1 month trial, assuring them they wouldn’t be charged if they canceled in time. Despite following the rules, they got hit with a $60 fee and was treated with ignorance when they tried to sort it out.

It’s clear they didn’t take her seriously, likely because she’s a young woman. I’m really disappointed in how they handled this, and I wouldn’t trust this gym.

I’m writing this review on behalf of my friend Vanessa, who had an awful experience at Gold’s Gym in Goleta. She and another friend were offered a ā€œfree weekā€ trial, but the staff misled them into signing up for a $1 month trial, claiming there would be no additional charges as long as they canceled in time. They were assured multiple times that this would be the case.

When Vanessa tried to cancel before the deadline, she was hit with an unexpected $60 charge. Despite numerous calls and even visiting the gym in person, she was met with rude and dismissive behavior from the staff. For three months, her concerns were ignored, and it seemed like they didn’t take her seriously, likely because she’s a young woman.

It’s incredibly disappointing to hear how a trusted brand like Gold’s Gym engages in such deceptive practices and treats their customers so poorly. I wouldn’t recommend this gym to anyone.

My friend and I had a terrible experience at Gold’s Gym in Goleta. We were offered a ā€œfree weekā€ trial, but the general manager pushed us into a $1 month trial instead, assuring us we wouldn’t be charged if we canceled before the 16th. Despite repeatedly asking for reassurance that no extra costs would be involved, we trusted them and signed a contract that was never shown to us.

When we tried to cancel before the deadline, we were hit with a $60 charge. We called countless times, but were constantly brushed off by rude staff. For three months, we were ignored and treated with zero respect—almost as if our concerns didn’t matter because we’re young women. This has been the most stressful experience of our summer, and we feel deceived and mistreated.

If you’re considering a membership at this location, be extremely cautious and don’t trust what they tell you without seeing the contract first. This gym does not care about its customers and engages in deceptive practices.

I rarely take time to write reviews, but I wanted to take a moment to say how impressed I am with Johnny, the new facilities manager at the Goleta Golds Gym. He clearly cares about the facility, has a super-friendly, outgoing personality and goes out of his way to be helpful and answer member questions. However, I specifically want to address the cleaning staff and in particular Francisco for a compliment. This guy is the hardest working staff member there. His focus, hard work and attention to detail plus his tireless efforts to keep the gym spotless always impress me. He is always moving heavy equipment and weight racks to clean the baseboards. This place is by far the cleanest of all three Gold's Gyms in Santa Barbara. You could eat off the floor here! Bravo to the whole team at Goleta for making it a pleasure to work out here.

Review as of October 2021:
I've been a member here for 20+ years, excluding the time it was sold to Spectrum/Bay Club.

For gyms/fitness facilities in Santa Barbara, Goleta location is the best in my opinion, followed by Uptown. Good variety of equipment, in good repair. Dumbbells to 120 lbs.

The gym is generally clean and well maintained, and management has been receptive to feedback (complaints haha) and implemented changes.

As part of the 5:00 A.M. crew, there's always equipment available.

Positives: Towel service (free), Sauna (when it works which as of Fall 2021 is most of the time) good equipment. Music is better now, after a recent adjustment.

Negatives: This is on the members, but many people seem unable to re-rack their dumbbells in their correct spot.

Needs improvement: evening cleaning / vacuuming, would like to not see trash/lint on the floor when we come in first thing in the morning. Also early morning openers have been late several times (2x in this month) which is a pain for those of us on a tight morning schedule.

All in all, a great gym, friendly staff.
