It is my pleasure to recommend Jo-Ann Kalb as a reading tutor. Jo-Ann taught my daughter to read. My daughter talks about Joann all the time and looked forward to her sessions with her each week. She is one of those teachers that a child grows up to remember for the rest of her life. She has that significant of an impact on her students. Jo-Ann sets high, but not unreasonable, standards for her students and then she gives them the tools to succeed. Jo-Ann cares deeply about each child and works hard to make sure they are reaching their potential. She understands that children learn in different ways. Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching basic reading, as well as more advanced reading, are both truly superior. She is capable of recognizing a student´s potential as well as weaknesses, apart from being very dedicated and sincere. Jo-Ann provided me with countless hours of advice and suggestions to help make school easier for my daughter. I honestly do not know what our family would have done without Jo-Ann. For the first time, I had a professional take my worries about my son's reading seriously. I want to take this opportunity to make public our gratitude to Jo-Ann. She has been working with my son Matthias for almost two years. Before I had the opportunity to met Jo-Ann, Matthias couldn't read at all. He was trying hard, and I was trying to help him, but unfortunately I couldn't find the way to do it. Due to this, Matthias started to loose his self esteem, and he lost his interest in reading. But one day, one of those lucky days, we met Jo-Ann, "our angel", she is a brilliant Orton-Gillingham specialist, who works with passion. She puts her heart in what she does, she is professional, disciplined, perseverant, and compassionate. I highly recommend Jo-Ann if you have a child with dyslexia, Jo-Ann, will give your child all the strategies to learn how to read, and she will train you as a parent how to help your child. Adding on Jo-Ann is a great advocate, she will always find time to discuss any concerns that you may have. Also with her wide experience as a teacher she will be able to give you some suggestions in order to accelerate your child's individual learning process. By now Matthias knows how to read and we can't give enough thanks to Jo-Ann for absolutely everything she did for my son.

Jo-Ann is a powerhouse. She is passionate, engaged, dedicated, and really good at keeping things on track and focused while still keeping them fun. Our daughter looked forward to her visits with Jo-Ann each week and their rapport was a lovely motivating factor for the work they did together. Orton-Gillingham wasn't used at my daughter's school and it turns out those decoding methods were just what she needed. She gained skills and confidence and is now actually excited to read.

We have Jo-Ann to thank for giving my 6 year old grandson the chance to succeed in school! He is a bright little boy who was struggling with reading. Jo-Ann diagnosed his dyslexia. Jo-Ann is an excellent reading tutor who has greatly helped my son make significant progress in his academic achievements this year. JoAnn patiently, intrepidly, taught my daughter to read. One of the reasons she's so successful with children is that her expectations are high, yet she is kind and judicious in how she relays them. She not only taught my daughter to read, she taught her to work--the only way forward. Years later, we still talk about JoAnn in our home. She is the person who took a student at sea, my young daughter, and gave her ways to navigate and steer straight. I only wish there were twenty JoAnns to share with others.
