Our experience at Groves has been truly transformational. We have seen significant growth in our son, not only with his reading, writing, and math - and really all academics, but also in his confidence and social/emotional development. This school is a special place and we have found it to be incredibly supportive of our family and our son. If you have a child with dyslexia or learning differences, I highly recommend visiting Groves and seeing for yourself how they support students and families.

I am now a sophmore in college but I attended groves back in 2016 to 2017. Parents, If you have a child with behavoral issues please DO NOT send your kid here. I will give this school props for making me a better reader and helping me through my dyslexia, but listen to me when I say this school can be down right abusive when it comes to students with behavorial issues. I'm unsure if the same staff still works here from when I attended but be warned about Mr. O. I hope this helps some parents.

Groves Academy is a special place. For children that fit one or many of the profiles for which Groves is equipped to serve, it is not a cliche to say that the educational experience is life changing for both students and their families. It is real and is true for our family. I noted a negative comment from a parent whose child did fit the profile and he was disappointed when his child was not accepted to Groves after a summer school experience. I can understand the frustration when you are seeking a school that fits your child and an option you thought may work does not. I wish that parent the best of luck in finding the right fit. I know it's hard and emotional. From a different perspective, for us, one of the positives about Groves is that it is not a place that tries to serve all children who are challenged by traditional instruction or otherwise struggle. Rather, its programs are focused on particular needs, and their methods work. On the upside, Groves' recent investment in its outreach program, led by former head of school, John Alexander, will help other schools find ways to provide more services to their students to help more kids find their best path to a good and meaningful education.

Both of my kids went to Groves -- my daughter from 6-11th grades, and my son from 4th until now. He's currently in 9th grade and we intend that he will continue at Groves until he graduates. Unlike the experience of the other reviewer who warns against treatment of children with behavioral issues, we had and continue to have a wonderful experience with the school Both my kids have behavioral issues stemming from trauma and brain damage. This was known upfront and it didn't affect either their acceptance into the school or their experiences while they were there. In terms of losing money, Groves is excellent about prorating or refunding deposits and tuition if things change (at least this has been my experience). When my daughter had to leave Groves for 10 months, missing part of 8th grade and also part of 9th, we got the rest of her 8th grade tuition back and paid less for 9th grade because it was not a full year.

We love the staff at Groves, and consider ourselves very fortunate to have found the school. My son would have no chance of graduating from any other school, I'm certain of it.

Be warned: If your child has a record of behavioral problems or was ever a student at North Education Center (NEC), or has been branded with and EDB diagnosis, Groves will take your admissions money, summer school enrollment money and deny your child anyway; this happened to us. My son used to have behavior issues years ago, but he is orders of magnitude better. We wanted him to attend Groves and as a "condition", he had to go to summer school. He went and performed well, but I don't believe they ever intended on accepting him. We went though all the hoops, money and paperwork just so he could be rejected. Teachers are probably great, but administration is unprofessional to say the least.

Our son was lost in both traditional and private schools. In fact, our whole family was disrupted because of his learning differences: fights over homework, his personal frustration, endless tutors, the list goes on.

Fast forward five months later and he’s a different kid already. It’s like the staff at Groves exorcised him of his learning demons.

He was immediately integrated into the school both academically and socially and has built strong relationships with his peers and teachers. Groves changed the trajectory of his life and ours with it.

He is an engaged participant in class, an enthusiastic student and an overall happier kid who actually looks forward to going to school! We will be forever grateful for their role in his transformation.

To fight back at the review that Mrs. Groves pockets money- must not know any history or anything about the school. As she has been dead for over 5 years- and the Groves Family has never made a penny off the school, but rather donate millions of dollars in scholarships for students/families. While it might be one of the most expensive private schools ( I doubt its more then shattuck st Mary's)- you get specialized teachers, and small classrooms- your children get a chance at education that they seemed to fail everywhere else at.
