Karla has been a lifesaver for our family. The school district repeatedly refused to identify our son’s dyslexia. They insisted he was “fine”. But he couldn’t read, write or do math (all those word problems require a lot of reading). Worse, he was beginning to think he was stupid. The IEP process is complicated. You absolutely need someone with experience to guide you and advocate for your child. Our son is now reading above grade level due to an appropriate school placement and related services. I hired Karla Maldonado to assist with my son’s IEP process, expecting professional advocacy and meaningful results. Unfortunately, despite paying over $1,300, we saw little to no progress. While she reviewed documents and attended meetings, her communication was defensive when questioned about goals and timelines. Instead of addressing concerns constructively, she chose to terminate our agreement rather than provide clarity on her strategy or deliverables.

She also made false assumptions about our personal decisions regarding school attendance and translation needs, which felt inappropriate and unprofessional. If you’re looking for an advocate who will work collaboratively and transparently with families, I would strongly encourage you to look elsewhere.
