Kay Tutoring provided an exceptional experience and stellar results the summer of 2024 as my daughter developed her personal essay for her college applications. The process was thoughtful, detailed, and the student and parent knew what to expect every step of the way. In cases where essays are making/breaking an application, or where a student is a particularly challenged writer, I cannot recommend Kay Tutoring and their dedicated coaches enough. My daughter was accepted to her first-choice school, and I have no doubt the application-centric essay was one of the key factors.

Kay Tutoring did a great job preparing my kids for the PSAT, SAT and ACT. They took baseline tests and advised them on which test to take. Then they matched them with tutors who helped them develop customized strategies to get the highest score (different strategies based on each child’s strengths and weaknesses). The tutors are very approachable and connected well with my kids, which made them want to go to each session.

Both of my kids used Kay tutoring to prep for the SATs and I highly recommend using Kay! I’m not a Minnesota resident but heard about Kay from a MN family member. The tutors worked with my kids virtually and used a personal approach to get to know my students and connect with them. This review is long overdue, but I wanted to show my support for Andrea and Kay Tutoring. My name is James Ly. I graduated from high school in 2020. After high school, I got accepted into the Wisconsin School of Business. I graduated a year early in May 2023, and was selected by Poets and Quants as Class of 2023 Best and Brightest Business Majors. I mention this because I couldn't have done it without the help of Kay tutoring. Throughout high school, I struggled a lot at home. I didn't have a great learning environment. By the time I had to take my ACT, my gpa was not where I wanted it to be. Kay Tutoring helped boost my ACT score, but also gave me confidence throughout the whole process including college admission. The staff were super supportive and truly want you to succeed. In April 2023, I decided to use my right to access my admission file. Here is what one of the admission counselors said

"James attends a very competitive school with a selective admissions process. Their school doesn't give class ranks but their grades overall are far less competitive than their peers applying, although they do show some improvement to mostly A's this year. This student's low GPA is primarily affected by their very poor performance freshman year and their improvement in grades with increased rigor throughout the years, combined with a strong ACT score, does show a lot more academic promise than their overall GPA would suggest.

I recommend direct admit to business and ADMIT"

My son worked with Kay Tutoring on his college essays and had a great experience. He had already developed his concept for his Common App essay but his tutor, Carolyn was helpful in pushing his concept a further. She was also helpful in guiding him to differentiate his supplemental essays for each school while tying to his Common App essay. Even though we started the process further down the road than most, my son was able to keep his momentum going while making good additions to make the essays better.

We came to Kay Tutoring based on a recommendation from a friend as my son was beginning to study for the ACT. From the initial consultation Kay was great at answering all of our questions and laying out a detailed plan. They were very realistic that there are no guarantees but if the student puts in the work they should see results. The tutors were super encouraging during each of his sessions and sent out session notes so we as parents could be monitoring progress. They also were genuinely happy and offered congratulations when he reached his goal score. I’m so glad we found Kay Tutoring and when the time comes for my other kids to start studying for the ACT, we will call on Kay again. Their methods and knowledge of test preparation really do work.

We were extremely impressed with Kay Tutoring. Their professional and knowledgeable tutors helped our son achieve an Ivy league level ACT score. Our son worked diligently with his tutors on learning skills and test strategies. Much of doing well on the ACT involves knowing how to navigate the test and utilizing time wisely and Kay Tutoring teaches that extremely well. Our son felt comfortable taking the test and felt he was well-prepared. Not only were the tutors impressive and easy to work with, Andrea the owner guided us every step of the way.
