Having taught in this wonderful organization for 9 years, I have only praise and gratitude toward the founder, Rob Silvan, who worked tirelessly to bring free one-to-one music lessons to children in the inner-city schools of Bridgeport. I loved working with these students whose lives changed because music was such a great vehicle for expression and release. I remember that I started to teach at one school in a storage area on an old spinet and then later moved to the stage area on a grand piano but yet I had wonderful students, some of whom are still studying. At another school, there was collaboration between teachers of different instruments, so opportunities for performing and special masterclasses and summer school events were possible.
I loved the ensembles, band and orchestra opportunities that students get. It's so great to see how this organization has grown so much! Rob Silvan's vision now has been embraced by many supporting organizations. On his retirement celebration, I honor his legacy. May this organization never stops helping students to experience the joy of music!
