My children's experience while participating in the learn la Aspire after school program at Columbia Elementary in the city of El Monte was not only memorable it also played a great role in preparing my two daughters for high school. Not only did my kids receive the help they need it with their homework they also participate and many sporting events such as basketball, football, cross country, and European handball. I credit the sports program developed by learn la for my daughters success as starting point guard on the girls basketball team at Bishop Amat High School. I have anothr daughter at Bassett High School who is experiencing great success in cross country and track and field and has been predicted to receive a full athletic scholarship. The young men and women employed by learn la where always polite respectful well-groomed and eager to teach kids and fully competent in doing so.

LEARN is a program which is run by donations. Employees do not get paid well for what they do. I believe LEARN is one of the afterschool programs out there that pays to employees less than what it should be or at least comparing to other programs. They do not really involve themselves too much when theres a problem going on with a child that involves both during school time and during the program hours. They could care less, in my opinion they rather not deal with it and let the school’s principal deal with it, when it some cases the principal does not do anything or much to investigate the problem the way it should be handled. Also, the lady in charge of the program would do whatever it takes for the program to not get cancelled, so that means that if you do something like speaking out since it seems they dont want to speak out about a childs problem with the parents, they’ll fire employees just to wash their hands in other words they rather not deal with it and pretend like nothing happen, when on the other side you have parents complaining on how come they dont speak to parents about handling a problem. LEARN also makes employes sometimes “lie” or put something else (another hour) about the time that the child signs out when there is no time on the time sheets in order for them to get paid or get money donated to the program because they have to follow protocol and that means that after certain hours they get paid per child or something like that and if they dont meet the requirements then theres no money donation. So I feel they are a little too pushy on that with employees. Bad experience with this program thats just my opinion. Sorry LEARN.
