Quite a different library experience for me, and one that you can really only get at a special collection one like this one. Although a bit of a trek to reach from the more standard Yale library system, it was absolutely worth it. In this quaint setting, the library is an extension of a classic Connecticut house rather than a typical library. Arriving after visit preparations and declared interest in the particular contents, the librarians are delighted to help you. Throughout, the library offers a variety of reading rooms, from the collection one to the so called 'new library' (built 1928). The house itself contains a fascinating history and really reflects the passions of 'Lefty Lewis' in amassing such a special and spectacular collection. Yale students and beyond, if you have the time and especially the interest in the works stored within, know the Lewis Walpole library is a splendid place to visit.
