My son is looking to attend the Air Force Academy and MMI came highly recommend! Our congressman had a service academy event and as we spoke with each one, they all had amazing things to say about MMI and how it prepared cadets to attend the academies. Everyone we have met at the school has our son’s best interest at heart and is focused on his success. This school has the backing of some super successful people and is one of the few options that the US government will also pay for sponsored prep for the academies. Highly recommend a visit if it is a school you are considering

My son will be attending Marion Military Institute (MMI) this fall under the SAP (Service Academy Program) as a non-sponsored cadet. Although he did not receive a congressional nomination during his senior year of high school, we now believe MMI offers the best path toward earning one.

He was awarded a full athletic scholarship for track and field, which is a testament to both his hard work and the opportunities MMI provides. From the beginning, the staff have been incredibly helpful, responsive, and supportive—addressing every question and concern we've had along the way.

The academic and military curriculum mirrors the rigor of the U.S. Service Academies, and I have full confidence in the program’s direction under LTC Bowen’s leadership. The curriculum is designed to reflect the academic and physical rigor of the U.S. Service Academies, and I feel fully confident in sending my son here to strengthen his candidacy for an appointment at USNA or USMA.

This is an awesome campus and it was awesome for my civil air patrol encampment for this past week! It was awesome with the library and the barracks and just the entire campus was very nicely held up and I love this place and plan on coming back to it next year!

My review was originally posted on Yelp years ago. My son referenced below has since graduated from Troy University and is in the National Guard. Original review: Do not go there if you want to be a LT. I've asked three mid-grade officers and one GO who graduated from there, none recommended it (too bad I talked to them after my son was already there).
I'm myself am a product of ROTC, from my observations, the ROTC department does not adequately prepare the ECP cadets from MMI for their Advanced ROTC Camp. After two semesters of focused PT, no one should fail the APFT, they had numerous PT failures... Strongly advise trying to get a 3-4 year ROTC scholarship elsewhere. To echo a couple other reviews, they allow the students to pick their sub-leaders which obviously turns into favoritism.
I would not send my son there again. Unless you are getting a full ride scholarship, have your kid live at home and go to a quality junior college. Student will get more out of it and cheaper in the long run. The idea that this "military" college will teach leadership, spirit de corp etc is wrong. Additionally, one student took a pistol on the band trip to Orlando (he'd had it in his car the whole semester). It was brought to the administration attention and he was expelled. However, he was allowed to return the next semester...I confronted the leadership about it who said "they would not go into particulars" but that" they believe the students are safe". No other college would have taken that stance... Over all, take it from a senior Army officer: this is not the best place to go if you want to be a commissioned Army Officer in the future! Truth in lending, my son did not do well, a lot of it was his own fault. However, when I asked where is counseling statements throughout the two years were, I got the blank look...don't fall into the idea that the smaller class size helps; my son is now at a 4 year university and doing 100% better...

While the teachers and advisors and most of the staff were really helpful and kind, the student body as a whole was awful. Along with hazing, no respect for recruits who just got there, and the cadre cursing and swearing all over the place; this place may have a reputation for being a "good" military college but it is tarnished every day by its own members. I rate one star only only for the faculty and staff who were so kind and helpful to me in the long run and will not be attending or recommending this college to anyone again.
