Neighborhood Music School has been a wonderful place for my toddler to nurture her love of music and movement. She has attended Music in Motion classes for nearly two years, and the joy, creativity, and sense of community here are unmatched. Dorota Xeller is a talented and experienced artist with a special gift for engaging NMS’ youngest students. We’re excited to continue our child’s journey with both music and dance at NMS—it’s truly a gem for families who value the arts and want to be part of New Haven’s vibrant creative community.

I'm so grateful that I found the NMS community. I've been practicing dance here for over ten years, and it has become a welcoming home for me and for my children. The emphasis is always on learning, creativity, building skills, collaboration, and fun.

We love NMS! Our 16 year-old has been a part of the NMS community since age 3--dance classes, music lessons, camp, drama, and middle school. The staff and teachers incredible, and work hard to create a supportive, welcoming, and nurturing environment that creates a sense of belonging for all. Could not recommend more highly.

NMS is THE place to go for Adult Ballet classes! It's truly a nurturing, safe, and friendly place to enjoy, develop, and discover your dancing self at any age. If you want to exercise but hate gyms, if you love art and want to express yourself through dance, if you always dreamt of moving in ballet shoes, this is your chance. Wonderful teachers and even live piano music for a wholesome experience every time. Highly recommended!

NMS is a very special and beloved corner of New Haven. They offer amazing dance and music classes (taught by established and brilliant teachers) in a very friendly and fun environment. NMS classes offer a unique balance of rigor and openness, a dynamic felt by its students young (and not so young!), veteran and new-comer. Our lives would not be the same without this incredible institution.

A fundamental place for the arts. The neighborhood of school has been a staple in this community for the entire 34 years of my existence I had the pleasure of attending summer camp and went out to participate in improvisation lessons and first gained my spark for the acting field.

In addition I did take private piano lessons as well as singing lessons in

In classical opera by the lovely Tiffany course that was years ago but the legacy lives on and which the youth is able to expand in their skills explore different art mediums .

I’m happy to still have a connection to this esteemed organization .

We recently had my 13-year-old son Gabe's recital with Adam Matlock, which was the first time he played accordion - one of two instruments he is studying with Adam - in an NMS event. It was so great, and, sitting in the recital hall, surrounded by the preschool art pieces, it made me think of what an incredible "career" Gabe has enjoyed at this magical place...from his preschool years there, which included him making creative books in the art nook and playing with all his new friends, and me leaning on the staff heavily for all kinds of advice, and even included his teacher at the time linking us up with an animal rescue for the addition of our beloved dog, Maisie!

All the way to today....working with a music teacher who miraculously shares his affinity for Irish music and who instructs him on both accordion and piano so beautifully. Our house is constantly filled with music!

NMS - what a wonderful place, I feel so lucky we have it!

It is VERY hard to find a violin tutor here. They indicated that the violin tutors is looking for a very skilled violin student and NOT suitable to learn from them if you are like a student who even had several years of experience. After several in-person visits and online surveys to request a violin tutor, they ended up giving me a compensate for learning something else, which was NOT the goal I went there several times for. Another realization is the front desk never forgive people's mistakes. I was happy to give this institute a second chance. When I walked in for another time, he realized that we were having a dispute about time conflicts before and he just acted very dramatically and scared me. So we ended up not working together. I am afraid that this institute chose its students and it didn't deserve a good violin students who truly wants to keep going.
