My kids have taken group lessons at a few different mountains over the years, and this experience was disappointing, especially given the high price point. Check-in for group kids lessons was hectic and left us nervous, with the coaches lacking the usual warm and welcoming tone we’re used to experiencing from mountains like Heavenly and Breckenridge. My eight-year-old son, who is in his fifth year of skiing, was left with a weird note in his report card stating he has, “a peculiar understanding of the sport, will need more practice.” Not very encouraging or positive, leaving my son upset after reading it.

We have a family private class with Ms.Alexie today. She's very friendly, attentive and professional. My son really enjoyed the class with her so much that he would like to fly to Child and ski with her there lol

Thanks much for a great class. You really make him want to go for it 🙂 highly appreciated!

My daughter has a wonderful time. She was super nervous at first, but everyone from drop off to pickup was friendly and supportive. Yes, the line to get checked in was long and chaotic. But, that's the way of snow sports! Getting to the slopes and up the mountain is the epitome of chaos. Once we got our check in packet, it was smooth sailing. Will definitely be back for further instruction.

I had private lesson with Speedy and loved it! Speedy was a fantastic instructor. He gave me drills to work on, his explanations and demonstrations were easy to follow, and he was a cool guy to spend a day on the slopes with. Speedy was a former ski racer, so it was fun to practice carving and moguls with him. I feel a lot more confident and skilled after our lesson.

With ski lessons, you get to use the ski school lane -- which is much faster and allows you to get more runs in. Highly recommend skiing at Palisades (my favorite California resort) and lessons with Speedy (real name is Steve!).

worst experience in ski schools through the US. poor welcome experience. A long line at check-in, they didnt find our tickets, sent us to another desk, people cut the line, sent us back, etc. each person there seems to follow different rules! But the worst part was the lesson: poorly-trained ski instructors that they allocate in priority to beginners' private lessons ($700 to make a snake behind the "instructor" !!!!). It happened to us a few times. My experience has been far better with group lessons where we got really excellent and nice instructors. so go group lessons!

My wife and I took beginner group lessons and we really were not impressed. First of all, the area for lessons was a sheet of ice. It was hard enough to stand on flat ground let alone go up the little hill. This was odd to us. Well we found out why later that evening.... they allow tubing after the lessons are over. The instructor was probably doing what she was trained to do however, we really didn’t get a lot out of the lesson.
The next day we went to Heavenly and rode the gondola up to the top where they do the lessons and Wow what a difference. They were doing lessons in “powder”and the instructors were showing everyone in the group lesson on a one at a time basis. Not “ Go ahead, Go”. We watched the instructors for quite a while and quickly decided we took lessons at the wrong resort.
We love Squaw Valley/ Now Palisades, but we will not suggest lessons there. Everything else there is Great! If you want to learn to Ski, Go to Heavenly Stateline!!
