The Mountain Course at PGA West has to be the best public course that you can play in the Valley. It has everything you’re looking for in a resort style desert golf course. The conditions, the views, the playability of the course. It’s top notch. Definitely would recommend if you’re looking for the most bang for your buck; but also you want a little quality for that buck. Great facility all around.

Front 9 are lovely but a bit flat. The back 9 once you pass the houses is beautiful. Green were running very fast day we played. Lots of water spots to keep hydrated. A great spot for 18.

If PGA West Pete Dye mountain course isn't on your bucket list, then it should be. For those familiar with local desert golf, this course has all the things you would expect from a fancy desert course (pristine fresh fairway and greens, fast putts, near-perfect conditions, beautiful clubhouse, great practice amenities).

For the golf nuts out there, let me explain some things I find so interesting about this course.

Distance: from the tips, its "only 6666 yards" - so you should be able to play a 3w off the tee most of the round, right? Sure, if you can carry every shot to maximum distance, then yes. But this course has undulations everywhere - hilly fairways, shapely bunkers everywhere, and some sloped greens. That has the net effect of making the course play longer. There are many occasions where you will hit a ball and get less roll-out than you would on a simpler course.

Greens: the greens tend to be dryer, faster, and longer. When I played them they rolled at about a 10. So, that means on a downhill putt or chip, you need to think carefully about your placement and landing spots and be mindful of your tempo.

Mountain landscape: if you've ever played this course on the Trackman SIM, then you've probably hit a few shots out of the mountain / desert hazards alongside the fairways and gotten away with it. In real life, there are rocks, bushes, boulders, etc. A lot of the time if you put one OB, its GONE. The back nine is all in the mountains, so you will challenged to keep your shots on their intended line.

If you can play around those constraints and avoid taking too many hero shots, you will live to tell the tale and walk away with a good score. 🙂

When I played here, I was the first out, played solo, just after sunrise, in a gentle breeze on a brisk morning in the beautiful mountain landscape. IMO It doesn't get much closer to heaven, if you ask me.

The first few holes were uneventful but decent. But after hole 3 I was awe struck with the beauty of this course. Stunning desert mountain views with a well kept golf course tucked into it. For a beautiful place to golf and a good round of golf, this is "the place". I have just been captivated with all the pga west courses as they are all pristine and well run, for a fair price.

Absolutely beautiful course. Really fun with tough water and rock obstacles. Almost guaranteed to see big horn sheep.

Given the reports I have read online recently, I was pleasantly surprised to see the greens hold as well as they did given the renovation from the fall of 2023. Fairways were in good to great shape throughout - and better than I expected given the flood they endured last December. Very enjoyable round and while greens were a little slow, rolled true for the most part. The views and the friendly staff more than “cancelled out” the recovery mode issues. It was a blast and some of the most beautiful “non water” golf scenery I’ve ever enjoyed. Play up a tee from what you normally do and you will hit (and hold) more greens! Thank you pga west staff for a great experience! We will definitely be back.

Fun course, good service. Typical Dye design which are tricky. Greens were redone last fall so they were not receptive to approach shots. Will be great to play next fall. Good food and drinks

First time playing here and I had a blast, front nine it’s difficult because holes are next to each other back nine is fun and more spread out shooting from the top of some mountains was definitely fun and interesting.
