I recently had an experience at Ronin that left me disappointed. While waiting for my son to finish his training, I decided to lie down on the couch in the empty waiting area. An employee, apparently on behalf of the owner, approached me and asked me not to lie on the couch. While I understand maintaining certain standards, the waiting area was completely empty, and the interaction felt unnecessarily rigid.

It’s disheartening to see a lack of hospitality in a place that should inspire and support those connected to its community. Parents and supporters play an essential role in the success of those training here, and creating a more welcoming environment would go a long way. A gym should not only promote physical excellence but also foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere for everyone.

Been here almost a year after being introduced by a friend who trains here. i had no previous martial arts backyard. Don't let the small percent of negative reviews keep you from coming. The gym is clean, well ran, has some of the best instructors in the world and a great community of people who are always willing to answer questions,. As a female doing BJJ it can be intimidating, but the professors always make sure i feel safe and the group of women who train there too are incredibly welcoming and supportive.

Very positive experiences so far for my kids. I have my 7 and 5yr old daughters enrolled in the free week trial and they are really enjoying Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai. The training is great and I hope to be able to enroll myself at some point. Everyone has been friendly and welcoming so far and the main instructors for both have made sure to spend adequate 1-on-1 time with my girls to help them get started. The Jiu Jitsu 5-7yr old class had about 18 students, so there are moments when things get a little chaotic, but it was well managed overall. There was 1 main instructor (I think her name is Sarah) and two assistants. I personally wasn't there for their first Muay Thai session, but my wife said that Coach Boggs is a natural instructor and did great with the kids. Pricing seems fair and I will for sure be bringing them back at some point when we have the finances.

Very impressed with the opportunities provided for youth – starting with Judo as a gateway to more advanced classes and options. The facility is clean, Mark is quick to answer questions and explain what to expect. A one hour class is packed with activity and exercise. The gym’s efforts to work with youth and everything it offers make it an incredible value.

My young kids have been going here for a few months and we are very happy with the way it’s going for them. Coach Jackson does an outstanding job with making the classes fun while still making sure students are learning and not getting carried away. There are also other good instructors which makes for a good coach-to-student ratio. Coaches also get involved and actually roll with the students to help teach them things which they really enjoy, We couldn’t be happier with the way they’re learning and enjoying their time at Ronin.

I see there are a couple of reviews from people who are complaining about having people park around the neighborhood. We have not been told to park in other business lots or anywhere in particular.

By far the best gym in town. Had the pleasure of training BJJ here for 3 years and the high level of instruction and multiple time slots for classes remained consistent the entire time. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned competitor, this gym has tons to offer. Super friendly environment to train at and I am sad to be moving away.

I've been training at Ronin for a few months now and I'm absolutely addicted to it. I'm studying BJJ and Muay Thai, and I occasionally get a workout in there. I've also started my older son in kids BJJ. I wanted to wait a few months before I reviewed. Below are a few high points of my experience at Ronin in no particular rank order.

1. Family atmosphere. Everyone there is welcoming and warm. I've been utterly shocked at how helpful and friendly everyone is, from the staff and trainers, to my fellow students. It's a tough thing to walk into a legit fight gym for the first time. It's also extremely humbling. My experience at Ronin so far in just a few short months has already positively impacted my mental health and the way I approach life. It's quite unbelievable.

2. World class instruction. BJJ is where I spend the most time. How truly lucky is Columbus, OH to have Vitor Oliveira, a world champion Jiu Jitsu competitor, teaching here? Vitor is a machine on the mats in competition and has dedicated his life to Jiu Jitsu. But he's also a fantastic coach. However, the culture he has instilled is what stands out to me the most. A fish out of water if what it feels like the first class you attend, but every single student of his has been welcoming to me, non-judgemental and extremely helpful. Everyone is truly interested in each others progression. Laurah Hallock, who manages the gym, is the only female black belt in Columbus, and she is also a fantastic instructor. For women considering BJJ, they have a womens only class once per week and the other classes are coed. BJJ is the ultimate equalizer to strength, so women considering self defense should consider it first and foremost before anything else.

For Muay Thai, Aaron Bogg's class has the same feel. Aaron has a knack for instruction and he's also serious about his students progress. He made me feel comfortable within 10 seconds of my first class. I'd love to have more time for Muay Thai. The same culture is prevalent in his class.

3. Kids BJJ. I've started my older son in kids BJJ and the instruction and class format for the little ones is perfect. If you want your kids to learn discipline, patience, impulse control and be able to truly defend themselves in this crazy world, look no further than Jiu Jitsu. They sort the class by age group, so the little ones don't get mixed in with the bigger kids. Sarah, Des, Sal and others do a great job keeping it fun with games and drills that develop important skills and knowledge at the same time.

They're putting in showers right now which is a bonus. They also have a weight training area, a boxing ring and an MMA ring. Boxing classes, Judo, Yoga, Kids Wrestling and a Ronin Fit class are also taught at Ronin.

If you have any doubt about where the best train, visit Ronin and see for yourself.
