Yes there are seniors here. We have contributed more than any other group to it's sustanibility. There are also lots and lots of families with children. There are some of the best people I have ever met working here. The employees stay for well over a decade and that says a lot. There is modern exercise equipment, weights,classes, instructors and invaluable trainers. If you are looking for a posh look at yourself in the mirror elitist place at 3 times the price this isn't for you. And if I may be so bold, we would just as soon u move along. Me, I'm gonna work out and then enjoy the 2 indoor pools. Several times a week. Dawn Bliesener

Do not send kids to camp here, there is 0 supervision and kids get injured. Also there is a lot of bullying from boys to girls and no one deals with it, the camp was amazing under the direction of Kaitlyn Tutoro and the y as a whole functioned better with Doug Shaw as the executive director, lots of employees are unprofessional and rude especially the people.in charge of taking money absolutely disgusting. The way to make this place better is to clear the swamp and get people in there that care about kids, care about humans and are maybe happy with Life. The reflection of your facility is in your score. It's sad, corporate should get rid of everyone that works there.

My wife is a member and wanted to share her experience with Soundview YMCA:

Review for Personal Training. I was going to wait to write this review until I reached my goal weight. However, I have gained such amazing results in such a short amount of time, I wanted to share my experience now.

I started personal training with Michael Ferrucci at YMCA Branford in April 2024. He took on a mess with me: cancer survivor, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and lots of weight to lose.

At the time of this review, I have lost 35 lbs, my blood pressure is now normal, I’m off insulin and off all other meds (all doctor approved). My recent blood work results showed an astounding improvement. This is the first time in my life that I have had this much success losing weight naturally. I have not used any weight loss drugs or injectables. I just visited my PCP for a checkup and she had nothing to say except keep up the great work.

Without a doubt, I would not be where I am now if I didn’t have an opportunity to work with Michael. He really cares about his clients, is patient, gives you his undivided attention while training and is mind-blowingly knowledgeable about all things related to personal training. His level of expertise is above and beyond. I feel beyond fortunate to have him as my trainer because all his knowledge and experience has resulted in life changing improvements to my health.

2/1/25 Update: Still training with Michael. Down 72 lbs to date. Diabetes reversed. Feeling great!

I’ll start with the positive. The facility is really nice and it’s really clean. That’s about where the positives end. I joined the YMCA hoping to be able to swim laps before or after work. Unfortunately that never happened because they keep ridiculous hours for the pool here.

They open so late That I can’t catch a swim before work and after 3 PM every day they let local high schools have a monopoly on the competition pool every weekday!?! Shouldn’t paying customers get some time?

When I brought this up to the staff I was told that I could swim in the recreation pool. Yes, that’s true but there’s only two lanes that are always filled and the rest of the pool is filled with children learning to swim.

In conclusion, if you’re thinking about joining this YMCA just don’t. It’s some of the worst money I’ve ever spent because I literally got nothing out of it. The staff also leave something to be desired.

This is one of the worst reviewed YMCAs in the whole state. You would think at some point they would take it to heart and start caring about their clients here.

The staff are very friendly. The facility is always clean, and they’re great about fixing broken equipment.

The weight room is severely lacking. There aren’t enough plates. It has been this way for years. For whatever reason, they just don’t invest in basic equipment.

Update: they revamped the strength room. It’s great. There is plenty of room and equipment to do real strength training. I really appreciate the effort they put in.

I love the Y, the staff are extremely nice, helpful and keep the facility clean. "THANK
YOU".
I am a long standing full family member; I wish they would exercise more care with the equipment, I often find loose bolts on the Barbell 's.
The YMCA, also could use more hand dumbbells, as well as benches and plates; I have struggled to work out when the gym floor is busy.

At summer camp someone I know for her head split opened because of the staff not watching and being on their phone. And bullies were picking on her when she was walking by. She got her head slip open with a hollow stick. And she won't go back to that camp ever again or that YMCA. She went to the hospital her mom had to come get her with blood dripping everywhere. They refused to call the ambulance when she was bleeding out they just stood there with gauze while her head was dripping blood. Not okay what so ever she's traumatized.Just be aware when you pay your whole bank account that they dont supervise your kids.Staff is always on phone and when this girl was bleeding out staff said okay and disregarded her

I'm surprised by all the negative reviews so I felt the need to post a positive. The kids have always enjoyed the camp, the facility is nice, my wife enjoys the pool (although lane hours can be tough) and I enjoy the gym (quiet, clean and no cells allowed). The only improvements I would like would be for a few more weight machines and private shower stalls.
