STC’s CCW Course: Bo Nalepa Shines!
With a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate and 20+ years of tactical learning and study, including DHS WMD response courses, I approached the Southwest Training Center’s 16-hour CCW course with one goal: meet the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department requirements with minimal hassle. Despite my extensive background—ironically, much of it gained at LASD’s own academy—I was pleasantly surprised to find the course genuinely enriching.
STC uses the USCCA curriculum, renowned for its thorough approach to personal defense. While the material wasn’t new to me, the depth and practicality of the content, ideally suited for a 24-hour course, were impressive. Instructor Bo Nalepa stood out with his insightful commentary on real-world self-defense scenarios, blending practicality with thought-provoking perspectives. His ability to distill complex tactical concepts into actionable advice was a highlight, a skill not every instructor possesses.
The mental health module, crafted by STC, was another gem. Nalepa made a potentially dry topic engaging, using clear explanations and practical strategies to address psychological and sociological challenges. His at-home shooting drills were equally valuable—effective, low-cost, and easy to implement—though underappreciated by some classmates. I’d urge future students to engage with this in the Q&A!
STC’s pricing is refreshingly affordable, with no extra fees for additional firearms, unlike competitors charging up to triple. For a mandatory 16-hour CCW course, STC delivers exceptional value, offering not just compliance but lifelong self-defense insights. Highly recommended for anyone serious about personal protection.

I took my CCW renewal class on Sunday. The facility was clean, well appointed free coffee and good snacks. The content was interesting. They made it interactive and the instructors were very very knowledgeable. When we went to the range to test, it was very well organized efficient, and they were very helpful in making sure everybody was safe and did the right thing I would recommend them for training and I plan to go back and take a tactical shooting class from them.

I had a great experience with Southwest. Can't say anything but positive things about the entire staff. Great culture they have there - everyone is pleasant to deal with and everyone is having fun while dealing with the seriousness of handling firearms like the pros that they are.

My first exposure was to Yamin and although I didn’t necessarily meet her, she was super duper helpful both on the phone and via emails. She’s on it! Thank you, Yamin!

Basel (unsure of spelling) was an excellent instructor for both the classroom and the practical range time. He kept the atmosphere of the class engaging and upbeat despite some of the lengthier material. Humorous and he knew his stuff.

I only got to hear Luis speak to the class for a small portion but he is definitely knowledgeable about gun laws as well. Did not get to see him at the range unfortunately. There was another gentleman there that I didn’t get his name but he was very helpful with tips to improve my grip.

At the range, I watched the instructors, Bo and Mike, encourage an older woman who was a novice to guns and she was slightly nervous as she was having trouble manipulating her fireman but they were super patient with her. They gave off no condescending energy at all (and I’ve seen that from other instructors before, especially towards novices and/or women). But Bo and Mike had her shooting on target and I could tell she was so happy and proud of herself by the end of the day. I really appreciated their kindness towards her, they went the extra mile!

Southwest is just good people is all I can say. 10/10 recommend for your pewpew instructional needs.

I really enjoyed this class. Everything covered in the course was very informative. The atmosphere and the way the class is taught is very informal and easy going. Plenty of time was given for us students to ask questions or to see clarification and the instructors did a great job with the explanations. Everything out on the range was very well organized and went smoothly. I highly recommend considering taking this class. If you're looking to either get your initial CCW or renew the one you have. I will definitely use them next time I need to renew.

Loved this guys from the very first phone call. Great customer service, affordable pricing and professional approach. Costs only $200 for 8 hours renewal class. Way more interesting and more information than at competitors. Close for Valley neighborhood. I'll for sure come back and bring my all friends here.

I thought Southwest Training Center was the perfect place to accomplish my CCW training. Everyone was Fantastic. Mike and Luis really hit the nail on the head with this training. Enjoyed every part of it. Ethan on the Range was also great.

I took this class for my CCW renewal and I gotta say how pleased I was. Great class and very informative. Price was better than most and overall experience was a pleasure. The shooting portion was done outdoors in a non toxic environment.
