So ..everyone has heard how dhr is evil and vile and only wants to steal your children to make money . I ..did not believe that . To me if your going to dedicate your life for children why would u ruin family's break them apart and harass people .. story time .
My daughter is severely autistic. Disabled . She did something I taught her to do to communicate that something was wrong . Dhr was called . I explained to my worker that I taught her that . I toke her to the doctor and she had something minor wrong . They wanted to investigate . I let them . For several months . They didn't investigate anything . They came to my house only once . But continuously got me to sign safety plans stating my wife couldn't be around are daughter . That's when the harassment started and the lies . They wanted my daughter to go to a therapist there . They lied and said that this women had experience with autistic children and was trained . They then tried to say my daughter isn't as autistic as she is . Saying that she can communicate her feelings and is just choosing not to talk . I got a attorney . And they openly admitted to my attorney while on speaker this therapist had absolutely no experience with autistic kids . They then tried to demand my wife not be around are kids and that I go to therapy and parenting classes . They demanded I become a single parent over night . With absolutely no evidence against my wife . And when I stated I couldn't just do that . They threatened me over . And over .and over .and over again saying they will take my children. " Don't be surprised when we nock on your door with officers to take your kids away , could happen at any time " I told them to take me to court . All of this was bc my daughter drew a picture . They said they would see me then ...they never did . Instead they told my attorney that I am choosing to run away ( in the process of moving ) and that I am suspicious bc I won't let them continue there investigation. They told me I can't end a safety plan that I don't have that right . And " can not just do that "
These people can not be trusted . They lie constantly . They will threaten and harass and will get there therapist to give wrong results just to take your children . Thank God they where on speaker phone . And I realized what they where doing
Lieing to me telling me your therapist is specialized with special need children then on speaker . Admitting to my attorney your therapist not only doesn't have experience with autistic kids but autistic kids isn't even her filed . . God only knows what would have happened if I went to get the rest of there services .

Come to find out that there is a Staggering amount of people losing there children bc dhr is demanding they leave there partners and there jobs so that they can take care of there children and then demanding they go to all of these services so that they can give wrong results and deem you unfit .

How do u take children away from family's that are fit . Easy . Make them unfit . Make them leave there jobs . Make them single parents in a day so that they can't afford child care or all of there bills . Make them go to the people that work for you that will lie and give wrong results .

Sell everything you can . Get a attorney .

I agree with all of these reviews. What could be an incredibly beneficial and useful resource for those in need is instead one of the most utterly selfish Human Resources I have ever experienced in my life. My children have suffered at the hands of the judge and this department. If you have to use them, keep your expectations low and try not to get angry when they sit up there and joke with each other. As someone else mentioned, it’s all about who you know and who’s turn it is to scratch backs.

I see these reviews and can only give an honest first hand account which was my experience. A little over a month ago I was investigated for abuse of my adolescent son whom just turned 13. I used corporal punishment as a corrective measure but found myself sitting in DHR. I feel that the case was investigated with an open mind and I cannot stress enough at how thankful I am that these doors have been opened for my family. McKenzie set me up a ISP meeting with an amazing young case worker whom I am extremely grateful for. Her name is Nakiya Brown and she is brilliant, caring, and just a top notch human who shows that she has a position that allows her to help families. She is very positive and thorough in every aspect of her job further showing that she is living her passion. I cannot stress enough at how grateful I am and blessed that she was assigned to my son because after trying for a couple years and feeling hopeless as if I’m failing at fatherhood, changes are finally starting to happen. My son needed help and I needed help in learning ways of coping and dealing with him. I never new how many services where available through the Alabama Department of Human Resources. This case was viewed with a professional, open minded attitude and do not agree with any of these comments that accuse this department of ruining their life. I know and whole heartedly believe that Nakiya Brown loves children and will go to whatever means to assist a family trying to provide a good life for their children.
Great job Nakiya, this family is grateful and blessed to have you in our paths so again THANK YOU.

They do not investigate things. If you know the supervisor you get what you want. They have lied and was even told that it was done before it even started because of who knew who. The children services is a joke. They honestly do not care about the kids.

Can never get a call back from child support. Being told after I asked a friend because I could not get caseworker to contact me, that I have to be at court in 2 days. Never got any info on it. Called court and told no I am not required to be there. Caseworker calls me after I tell friend that and tells me yes I have to be and that court is always at 9am.

Every time I speak with them they have an attitude and act like they hate their job. Extremely poor way of speaking to people. There is no reason to be so uptight to people that are calling for assistance. Y’all need new employees!

As far as child support is concerned the caseworkers never answer the phone and they say to only leave one voicemail but then they never return your phone call.
You have to go to the building to get anything done and even then they’re rude, unhelpful, and lazy.
What are our taxes paying them for?
What do they do all day?
I mean seriously. Because in my experience it’s nothing.
I walk in to ask a few simple questions and I get an attitude every time. I mean honestly it takes nothing to be kind and informative.

They don’t answer the phone and then if they do they are short and/or rude. My info was put into the system wrong by the case worker so as a result I can not activate my card. I was told that my info would e updated and by morning I would be able to activate my card and use my benefits. By the next morning the computer recording told me my card was reported as lost damaged or stolen. I never reported any such thing. I spent 4 straight hours calling and finally got someone on the phone. Now, I’ve been told that a new card was mailed yesterday and it will be another 5-7 days before I can use my benefits. If the people that work for Human Resources don’t like their job they should find a new one. They certainly act like helping us is a problem. They need a new training course on how to do their job and how to talk to people.

The people who work there go above and beyond to get you the help you are needing. The receptionist is amazing and very knowledgeable about a lot of different situations. Love them.
