Steve Dalton and his team at Strength in Numbers Tutoring are the best of the best! We live in neighboring Wellesley, and I reached out when my sophomore needed support in both chemistry and algebra 2. I was immediately impressed with Steve's esoteric knowledge of how each respective district (and even down to specific teachers) orders and implements its curriculum. Because of this, Steve was able to jump right in and help my daughter starting from day one. Steve is very quick to assess any confusion or roadblocks in comprehending scientific or mathematical concepts, and he knows just how to break it down and explain it in a way that makes sense for my daughter. And the proof is there in her test scores which immediately improved upon working with Steve. My daughter really enjoys her sessions with Steve, and articulates how helpful it is to her learning and growth. This tutoring has been so impactful that I even see a difference in her confidence. I'll admit that it's a big investment, but Steve and his team are worth every penny. My only regret is not finding Strength in Numbers sooner!

We had a great experience with Steve from Strength in Numbers, who tutored our middle-school daughter in math, and Melissa, who tutored our son for the SAT.

Steve was able to work with our daughter on her homework each week and help her understand any concepts she might have missed in class. He also helped her prepare for both regular public school math tests and standardized tests for private school. We had used a private math tutor and Mathnasium before and found that Strength in Numbers was far better at meeting our needs. Likewise, Melissa did a great job working with our son to prepare him for the SAT, which he recently took and felt very positively about.

I can not say enough wonderful things about Steve and Strength in Numbers Tutoring! He has literally changed my son's life and his experience at school. As a high school student, it is so critical to be able to be successful, and even in highly rated school districts, the teachers are not all perfect. Finding someone who can teach the material is a way that your child can understand and learn is everything! My son went there for chemistry and then also started getting help for math... I truly can't understate how amazing this has been and I highly highly recommend them for any subject and any student.

Our daughter was becoming frustrated in her Algebra 2 class. I reached out to Steve at Strength in Numbers. He was very quick to reply. Explained the costs and process in a clear manner. Within days our daughter was matched with Brenda, her now tutor. Steve understood that things should move quickly, so our daughter would not fall too far behind in her class. We really appreciated this as that was our number one fear. We didn’t have time to wait a few weeks for an available tutor…we wanted our daughter to receive support quickly…and she did. Brenda has been excellent. She explains things in a way that our daughter truly understands. We really appreciate that Brenda just doesn’t ask “you understand?” and then move on when she receives a “yes” or head nod. Sometimes our daughter will give a nod, but really doesn’t understand. Brenda takes all of the angst and frustration out of that scenario by following up and having our daughter teach/tell her how to complete the problem step by step. Our daughter is much more confident in her Math ability. We feel extremely fortunate to have found Strength in Numbers!

Steve of Strength in Numbers tutoring has taught all three of my children math. My first child is currently being evaluated for being on the spectrum. Steve has been patient with him, because although my son is generally very good with numbers, he gets extremely frustrated when he thought he was doing well and his performance wasn't up to his own expected standards. Steve handles his frustration well, provides him short breaks when needed, and has encouraged him to practice his "mental math", which gives him great satisfaction.
My second child is very different. She isn't as "natural" with math as her older brother, but she is very diligent. Steve has been very patient with her learning as well, and gives her plenty of positive reinforcement. Steve realized that mental math isn't the best way to approach things with her, so would provide more tactile and concrete activities so she could build up skill and confidence.
And now, he's teaching my youngest too. I couldn't have more confidence in Steve, as he's done so well with my kids and they love him. They are performing very well academically, and I don't have to deal with math-related whining. I thoroughly recommend Steve to anyone looking for academic tutoring in the Needham area. He's not the cheapest, but with his quality, the value is exceptional.
