Benefits and Characteristics of Taoist Tai Chi

Taoist Tai Chi distinguishes itself from other Tai Chi styles through its emphasis on internal development. Unlike some styles focused on external forms and self-defense, Taoist Tai Chi prioritizes cultivating a deep sense of relaxation, improving balance, and fostering mental clarity. The movements are designed to promote the free flow of ‘qi’ throughout the body, leading to enhanced health and wellbeing. The practice is characterized by:

  • Slow, Fluid Movements: The movements are performed at a deliberate pace, allowing practitioners to fully embody each posture and connect with their internal energy.
  • Deep Relaxation: A core component of the practice is cultivating a state of profound relaxation, which helps to reduce stress, improve sleep, and promote overall health.
  • Internal Energy Cultivation: Practitioners learn to cultivate and circulate ‘qi’ through specific movements and visualizations, enhancing their vitality and resilience.
  • Taoist Philosophy: The practice is deeply rooted in Taoist principles, emphasizing harmony with nature, acceptance, and the cultivation of inner wisdom.

Many individuals have reported significant improvements in their physical and mental health after practicing Taoist Tai Chi. I have been going to classes for a little bit more than a year now. I went there so I could get back together with my balance. Over the years, I’ve developed the habit of falling, which is very unpleasant, and I can guarantee going to Tai Chi was the best decision. I love these classes I attend two or three days a week. The leaders are all very knowledgeable and helpful and fellow students are very friendly and make you feel very welcome. I couldn’t be more pleased with my progress and I know that I’ll improve even more as time goes on. An added benefit it is very meditative doing the sets.
