I had a new student assessment yesterday, slept on it, and felt compelled to write a review. People were incredibly nice and courteous. The new student assessment was really informative, but my ears perked up when my instructor said “WHEN Jon purchases a lesson package.” The new student assessment should be taught in a sales class. 1. As many people have stated all the lesson packages essentially price people out - the lowest at $430 is essentially monthly dues at a various country clubs around Columbus.
2. I’m fairly certain they have a decoy in the highest price option. And my guess is no employee recommends it:

Example:
• Basic: $430
• Mid: $599
• Premium (decoy): $1,100

Why it works: the premium package is intentionally overpriced or loaded with features few people need. It makes the $599 model seem like a good compromise between price and quality—so people gravitate toward it.

3. I asked about a la carte lessons ($200) and was hit with loss aversion/anchoring and framing tactics. Things like:

“I want to make sure you’re getting something that actually lasts.”

“I’d hate for you to spend less now and end up needing to upgrade in a few months.”

“It’s a good option, but honestly, I wouldn’t feel right recommending it for your needs.”

“You’d be paying for something that might not do the job—I’d rather point you to something that gives you more for your money.”

The new student assessment is priced lower because it is a sales pitch. There is no plan to give you any drills at the assessment.

I have no doubt that, if you can afford it, this place works wonders, but, as many have already stated, it prices a sizable percent of the people out almost immediately.

I’m also not unhappy, or looking for someone to “make it right” - as much as I appreciate The Golf Room commenting on all reviews.

I just wish I would’ve read something like this before scheduling.

It was just a next-level day. From the minute I entered the door and was shown around the compound I felt like a VIP. I got incredibly helpful information from Aaron in the physio area, which for a lumbar spine fusion patient is of utmost importance. And then my two hours with Kyle were unlike anything I've ever experienced. His knowledge of every aspect of the swing is incredibly impressive, from data to aesthetics. And his handle on why everything happens the way it does in the golf swing really gave me confidence that we were working towards a swing solution and philosophy that was going to be sustainable long-term. And it doesn't hurt that he's very funny and can relate any concept to the student in a way that makes sense to them. I can't wait to get to work and come back at some point to show him what I've implemented.

Arrived early and was pleasantly greeted at the front desk. From there I was taken to my bay and was told I could hit some balls to get loose while waiting for my session to start. That was when the fun started. My instructor was very pleasant and professional. He guided me in the direction I ask for. The facility was very impressive. I would highly recommend TGR if you are looking to improve your game.

I’ve been playing golf and taking random lessons for approx 25 years. I learned more about the golf swing, my body and how it all ties together in the first 2 hours than I have in the last 25 years.
Simply an amazing experience!!

I signed up for golf lessons here. Made it to the first 2 I believe. Some things came up in life and I completely forgot about these lessons. They continued charging my card for 4 months after I stopped showing up. There was no courtesy call and I was completely unaware of these charges were still ongoing. Upon realizing what was happening I called and canceled the lessons. The representative said they would refund the most recent charge which I appreciated. I do not have any negative things to say beyond the lack of follow up when I wasn’t showing for my lessons. But I do feel the lack of communication warrants a 2 star rating.

In being very candid the packages are pricey and I’m not sure they're in my price range for the short-term, but based on the value I got from my assessment I have no doubt they'd be worth the cost. The depth of the feedback I got from that assessment was worth every penny of it! Highly recommend to anyone who wants to get a good snapshot of where they stand!

Thanks John and Golf Room team for a great day last week and welcoming us. My wife and I made the drive down from Michigan and each had a 1 hr lesson. The assessment helped identify areas of improvement for us to practice on this winter. We appreciate how John explained the swing using different techniques and training aids. The robot really was an eye opener into how the pros swing. It’s one thing to see a good swing on TV and another to swing with the robot. We are enjoying the journey to getting better.
