My grandson was adopted out to a family that was viciously physically and sexually abusive, he was left out on the streets by the adoptive parents at 15 years old . Left to fend for himself the best he could with nothing but the clothes on his back.
"The PLACE" became his home, and the people there became his family. At age 19 he finally googled his name and found the thousands of messages I had left him over the years. Birthdays, holidays, days when I would sit and think about him and his sister, missing them so much, well, he found them at last, And responded to one of the messenger accounts left for him to find.
He initially reached his little sister , who ran the phone to me . And we called him together. Found out he was homeless and struggling. So we got in the car and went to bring him home. It was amazing getting to know him as a young man. He was very attached to the family he built at this place he called "the Place" and would drift back and forth between us.
I was just blessed to have whatever part of himself he offered me.
You see, my only child had passed from complications from Diabetesonly 6 months before he found us that day. His mommy would have been blessed with one of her life's dreams coming true if she were still with us. I told him every story of love and how we longed for him in our lives while he was away. And we bonded in our own amazing way...he and his little sister were inseparable when they were together. And she suffered most of all I think at the loss of him . Exactly 2 years to the day after him mommy died from diabetic issues , Caleb followed her to the heavens with the same cause of Death as his mom. It's been a few months since we lost him. But I will never forget the loving and enormous outreach that showed up to see him off. They shared pictures and videos of his years with them at "the place".
Then and only then did I get the attachment he had to this organization, the workers and the other street folk who took care of eachother the best they could.

Thank You for caring for my grandson all those years. He loved you all so much and I definitely see why.

They treat us less than human. They kick out in 15 degree weather. God abandoned this place long ago. Avoid this place NO MATTER WHAT.

I read the reviews on this place back in November and was actually really scared to come over here. But i was left with no other choice but to come. i sucked it up & came. initially the intake process was very scary as i’ve never actually been homeless before. however staff was really kind and nurturing. i came after work at 10pm, the intake took about an hour, Adam made me some dinner which made me feel a little bit safer and comfortable. after my intake was done i was given a tour and a rundown of how the shelter operates and what to expect. i was given a bed in the girls dorm, a hygiene basket bc i didn’t have my own at the time, some blankets and pillows & went to sleep. the next day i met with almost all of the weekday staff. the shelter manager Hunter was also very kind. I’ve been here almost 4 months and that’s mainly my fault but i am leaving tmmrw. My case manager Tayah has been helping me from finding new jobs, to getting a therapist, and being able to help me exit the shelter with a safe place to go. If your anywhere from 15-20 i recommend coming here if you have no other place but the streets. i’ve learned a lot while being here and am so grateful for everyone who’s helped me along this journey i’ve been on. personally i wanna thank hunter, tayah, adam, victoria, lissete, mac, john, and gabby for everything they e helped me with while living here. so again if your in need of somewhere don’t let these other reviews scare you. most of the bad reviews are because people who come in here are in a very vulnerable state of mind and just can’t handle that there is rules to living here. Laundry is provided, food is provided 3 times a day, and your bed, even though you share with a dorm it’s really not that bad. it’s kinda like living in a college campus.

This place had me in tears more times than not. I was treated horribly and they kicked me out more times than I can count, they would make things up to get me kicked out. One time they waited until it snowed to exit me and I had to fight so hard to get back in after when I should not have had to fight at all (they almost didn’t let me in anyways) Not to mention the fact that some of the staff was down right weird/creepy to the clients (myself included). Alex and Karen H were incredibly rude to me every time we sat down for a meeting. Karen told me “I don’t think you could do this job because you’d have to actually get up and work” (They were no help in job hunting whatsoever) There’s so many other things I can say but I’d be here all day

They force the kids to leave most of the day, putting them on the streets and expecting them to come back by curfew. With a teen daughter that stayed here, I do not recommend. Being forced to be on the streets during the waking hours, she was exposed to tons of bad people that harmed her. Do not take your children here. They also didn’t put all her things in a locker to keep them from being stolen. Blankets are stored in a common area and all of them were stolen by other kids there.

Do not donate to this organization I am an owner of a very lucrative landscaping business and I make well over six figures a year and own a home and am married. I was at the place when I was younger for about two weeks to a month and they treated me with more abuses than help. It was only when I actually slept under a bridge after being at the place or urban peak as it was known at the time that I actually received the help i needed.
