Traumatizing for the entire family, still recovering more than a year later. If you are looking for neuroaffirming care, this is not the place. We never felt listened to by the BCBA (Caylin). There was little to no transparency or consistency. Feeding concerns and rest time requests were ignored the entire six months, despite constantly asking for them to be prioritized before addressing behavior (finally were addressed after we went to the director and said we wanted to pull out, but it was too late) . High turnover with the people who are actually with your child all day long. My family felt like we **had to educate staff about autism constantly**, while they remained focused solely on behavior modification at the expense of our child's trust in adults/caregivers, nutritional needs, joy of socializing, joy of learning and overall happiness.TL;DR the practices here, despite the sales pitch, are outdated.

So grateful we found The Talcott Center! My son is 6 and is on the Autism Spectrum and they have gone above and beyond to help and support him. They see him as a whole child and not only the service they're providing. Being at a hospital my son would receive speech services and they would not account for his sensory seeking needs because OT was in another building. Talcott sees my son and adapts to his needs, for example he's feeling wiggly they bounce on trampoline and talk during session.
During Covid, when our lives were turned upside down, they got my son back. He started to regress into his own world and started to become agressive toward us but most importantly himself. They upped his services, they started camp early, and were there for us in our biggest time of need. He started talking to us again and stopped hurting himself. Yes, there are days we struggle, but Talcott is a major critical part to my son's successes.

We have had a very positive experience working with Talcott for ABA, OT and Speech therapy for our son, who has Autism. We've worked with a few different companies over the years and Talcott has not only been the most flexible with us but also the most reliable.

Something you'll see in a lot of these smaller companies is that a lot of the therapists are young. This isn't a bad thing but when all therapists are young people, you get a lot of turnover. Talcott seems to have figured out how to properly deal with this in a way that other companies have not.

The example here is we worked with another company prior to Talcott and they provided us a couple years of in home therapy sessions and the people they provided were good. When the therapist assigned to us would go on maternity leave or would jump to a new company though, there was several times where there was months of no services while they staffed a replacement. Jump forward to our time at Talcott and we've had 1 therapist leave, 1 got promoted after recieving her BCBA cert and one left temporarily on maternity leave, and they've been able to slot a new person in to take over each time so we never miss a beat.

It's been quite refreshing compared to our past experiences. You will sit on a waiting list but it's worth the wait if you can get in here.

Having a child with special needs is a roller coaster of an experience. As a parent, you are filled with so many different emotions and the journey can be overwhelming at times. You need a “village” by your side to love your child as you do, persevere through the challenges and celebrate the victories. The Talcott Center is our “village.” We cannot say enough good things about this place or the family of therapists and visionaries that make it the unique treasure it is.

Terrible experience! My child was there for one session and they told us they couldn't help our son because his behavior. Keep in mind this is a place that is suppose to assist kids on the spectrum. They told us that NONE of our current child have behaviors which is extremely hard to believe. ZERO STARS because society already don’t accept people on the spectrum but then you telling me WITHIN the autism world our child is not accepted either. VERY disheartening situation

The TC has been critical to our child's success and happiness. They take their role seriously and also understand the importance of parental empowerment and training. Our child loves it there ... that by itself should say everything. But the center has also helped US help our son and together we have promoted his continued development -- he has been making leaps and bounds, and we can directly attribute so much of this to the TC.
