Financial aid department is completely incompetent. I submitted everything required for financial aid and my financial aid award was not put together by the first day of my class. I emailed and received no response for over a week, then the response made absolutely no sense to me so I called. I discovered that due to an overlapping loan period from another school I attended I would not be able to receive full funding when I started and would have needed to wait to start classes. They stated they attempted to contact me on 3/1. I didn't have any missed calls or voicemails. My class began on 3/6. They did not attempt to contact me again prior to the start of the class. It wasn't until 8 days into the class when I called that I knew what was going on with my financial aid. If I had known, I would have dropped and waited. I did drop the class and, at first, they wanted me to pay for it. The academic advisors helped because this situation was wrong, it wasn't my fault, and it was arranged that I would not be paying for the 8 days I spent in this class. BUT I JUST RECEIVED DOCUMENTS FROM FINANCIAL AID REQUESTING AUTHORIZATION FOR STUDENT LOANS TO COVER THAT CLASS. If you are using any kind of financial aid, I recommend staying away from this school. They fail to communicate important financial information with their students.

I graduated 4 months ago and they still have not sent me my diploma, not even the electronic version to my email. Meanwhile, I have peers who have graduated after me and they have already received both. I worked my behind off for five years while being active duty in the military and my achievements can’t even be celebrated yet.

ALSO, although my tuition was paid for by military TA or VA Chapter 31 benefits, they would never disperse all of my Pell Grant money to me. I still have a credit of $2,100 on my account and they are refusing to deposit it to me.

Everyone I have reached out to regarding both of my issues always gives me the run around or ignores my questions and concerns. This is completely unacceptable. I will give it a few more days until I go to the BBB, Dept. of Education, Federal Student Aid.

Please listen to all of the negative reviews. This school has a 23% success rate in graduation and their transfer rate is the 76% divided with those who just give up and drop out. My first year was okay, no issues, classes were good…Then boom, my 1st quarter of my 2nd year my financial aid and all of a sudden my funds aren’t being applied properly, my disbursement dates are months apart from each other under the same disbursement, it took over 7 phone calls & over a month to fix the issue. Then my worst mistake was trying to do a degree change, I was assured everything would be a seamless process, no problems, and I’ve had nothing but problems. — I really wish I would’ve read the reviews before choosing this school. I can’t even put into detail how many issues I currently have going on with this school, not to mention because of their mistake I now owe money! It has been complete madness. I read other reviews on websites saying this school was really good with making up false reasons to get money but I just wanted that to not be my situation. Now here I am, currently on a forced academic leave, no one ever calls me back and the financial department doesn’t know how to do anything. It’s so bad, I am getting legal assistance to try and get this resolved. Do yourself a favor, go to literally any other college online.

I’ve been attending this school since April of 2023. So far, I have had assignments deleted by an instructor with no message or heads up to me which she then proceeded to grade as incomplete (a reading course with professor Wright), ignored by my academic advisor when requesting assistance to go on an academic leave due to family issues (Roger Callender, I had to go to his supervisors supervisor to get someone to talk to me), and now while I’m an inactive student who was planning to return this spring I was contacted and told I have a balance due they’re requesting I pay from the last course I took. That course ended in October of 2023. It is now mid January of 2024. When I left the school to go on an academic leave all of my courses had been covered by Pell grant and student loans. This school is a scam and only cares about taking money from people trying to better themselves. DO NOT APPLY HERE!!!

If you are a transfer student, they will tell you they accept your credits, make a plan and after you’re about to graduate, they will require you to take additional courses that they did not discuss. That will cost you extra time and money. Also, they recommended electives that I did not even need which also cost me more money.

I’m not here to complain about the courses. The brass, though? Wow. Where do I start? Your “student advisor” gives little, to no help. I was told I could drop a course without facing any financial consequences, only to be billed the course and forced to pay it in order to receive my diploma. I contested the situation and was not notified of the results. It took many calls and e-mails to find someone who could provide answers, and the young lady who did respond sent an email that would make a group text thread proud. Needless to say, the lack of professionalism made me feel like my situation wasn’t being taken seriously. After weeks of trying to speak to management, I find out that they sent my unpaid balance to collections. After stating that I was seeking legal counsel, they reversed the amount sent to collections and I finally got to speak with management. I still don’t have my diploma 🙂

So far so good!
I have been attending online for over a year! It was easy to apply, all my previous credits were able to be transferred over, my advisor helped me choose a degree program and schedule that fits my needs. The financial aide staff were helpful on walking me through the process. I am enrolled in 1 class every 5 weeks and the material and lessons have been pretty easy and engaging. I hear from my professors and advisor in a timely manner. When I had a hardship I was able to go on academic leave for a month and was able to return with no issues. I feel like classes are so simple to understand, it's like I am paying for A's lol! It is a bit pricey yes, but I see it as I get what I pay for - a promising degree. There's so many resources and materials provided, I wish I felt this supported in highschool ? lol. My work / life balance is not stressful! I am loving it so far!

About to start my 3rd year and I LOVE it!!! My experiences have been fantastic, and I would recommend them highly. Financial Aid has been great in helping me with everything. My instructors have all been very supportive. I broke my leg and had to take a couple weeks off, and it was no problem. If I had been in a traditional 4 year college, I would have had to drop the entire semester. My father passed away last year and they were wonderful. I took a little time off to take care of everything and picked up where I left off. I could never have done that at a traditional college. My experiences at Ashford have been outstanding! I'm on the Dean's List, and in a National Honor Society. I feel like the people who have had a bad experience with Ashford were not making their education a priority and blame Ashford, instead of taking responsibility for their own actions. This is the grown-up world, get on the ball or get out of the way.
