I was there from 1983 until June 1985..upper campus..McLane cottage..I still remember miss t and miss baily..Mr gaston..and kojack..are night guy..by the time I got there I had already been through 20 other places..some ruff joints like industry..monroe county children's center..ect...so birkshire was a walk in the park for me..I still have a couple close friends from there I'm in contact with today..I would like to say being there taught me everything I needed to know to change my life but 2 months after release I was locked up and ready to go to and adult facility..after getting out of that in 1991 I never looked back..I raised 4 successful kids and changed up my whole life..I still think about some of what I learned there and think some of it helped me and were actually good years of my life there..I live in upstate ny..elmira and its like 4 or 5 hours from me or I would be visiting to se e the changes over the years..if anyone reads this I'm mike coats..little man..McLean cottage 83-85 hit me up.

I was in hagamire. In 2009. Was a H.T.P. Cottage. For hard to place. Basically if you got in a fight or something like I did first 2 weeks of being there. that's where you were going. I wish they had plans for the kids that left there. And programs that would help keep them outta trouble when they get out. 2 of the kids from my house, Chris Jordan, from Long Island NY, and Shaka Jones, from Harlem, were both shot and killed. just a few years after finally coming home. SMH. And I spoke on the phone with Shaka just a month or 2 before he was murdered. He was asking about how it was up my way where I lived. Like he was thinking about moving up here. And continuing his music career. I told him GTFO of the city and come up here. But he unfortunately didn't. Wish he would of. Maybe things could of been different for both of us. He's dead, and I'm going to jail again for maybe the 12th or 13th time at 31 years old. Tomorrow.

I was there feb 76 to June 77. The place was a nightmare violent and scary. I was in wise cottage. The two main people that ran it were Mr Earnie banks and Lynn Crawford. We were repremanded with beatings and all kind of restrictions. It was a living nightmare

Wow it’s still here & I’m seeing it was here way before I came here! I think it was a great place. Taught me a lot of things as far as being responsible, anger management somewhat and met a lot of people with different walks of life! Lawrence Cottage 2001-03

I was sense to go to Berkshire farm through a pins program,in 1986 & I was there through 89 & was in Twombly Collage lower campus.and wow things where very bad when I first showed up there and things changed a lot through the three years I was there..it was all boys home then upper & lower campus…I would really love to see and talk to others that have gone there about the same time I did….after going there they had to send me to another place because I was too old and so they sent me to Rochester a group home that was affiliated with Berkshire farm…..tbh Berkshire had a staff member that was molesting kids then and also hitting some kids..I recall a few things there from kids committing suicide which I seen in person,to kids trying to run away from there and big cottage fights that use to go on a lot in the 80’s…this is going to sound very odd but outside of that there was some things I did like there..getting my Home leaves every month, being able to earn my points so I can have my own room.(they had a point system for the cottages for kids to earn in order to get extra privileges)and one of the upper campus cottage had a staff member that had a personal friend relation with Don King and they talk and taught kids how to box and deal with anger….I have to say back then Berkshire was GREAT at hiding things that we’re bad that happened there, And keeping other people from finding out about some of the absolutely crazy things that did and was happening. With today’s technology I think things like that will never happen back then if we had the same tech back then, but in a odd way I have to say I do miss some of the people and staff members there I was there for 3 yrs of my Childhood
