This museum has a good amount of transit history with some good history of the railroad that ran through here. We had a docent show us through the main barn where most of the collection is stored and you can step inside old Pullman coaches, streetcars, and trolleys. The tour takes around an hour and a half. So if you want to experience everything this museum has to offer, recommend you get here at or before 1 PM.

Dropped by today on our road trip. Took the tram ride which lasted about 45 minutes. Lots of good info and neat to tour on an old well used tram!
All staffed by volunteers too. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Good well stocked gift shop selling old reproductions of the posters inside the tram along with heaps of books and paraphernalia.
The cafe didn’t offer much at all so by passes it.
Due to a tight time line we had to move on without seeing all there was to see.
Clean amenities plenty of parking too.

Always a great experience. The weather is always wonderful here. Friendly staff and a fun place to ride trains. Incredible history. Definitely worth coming here with the family. Great place to get away from the Sacramento area heat during the middle part of summer. Cafe offers a modest meal . Place is clean. Lots of opportunities for picnics or parties . Highly recommended

I love the places like this are still around! It was so amazing to get to ride a post World War II commuter train through the California countryside. Well, the sites were a bit underwhelming, the history and the charm of the train driver and conductor was wonderful as he shared history and really brought a sense of Nostalgia to the experience. My kids loved getting to ride the train and enjoyed the waiting area with all the train tables and toys, the coloring area, the historical exhibits, and the gift shop.

Returning to Stockton from Fort Bragg, stopped to visit the railroad museum which has information on the electric trolly, railroad items for sale, and excursions on electric trolleys, you can also explore old trolleys in their barn. If in the area and you enjoy railroad road history, and train rides stop and enjoy 😉

Really neat place. It all has to do with electric trains. They have quite a huge amount of vintage trains. The volunteer are all really nice and knowledgeable. Need to call and make sure they are fully staffed to see the gem trains in the buildings. Must be escorted to go into those buildings, and they rarely have the staffing for that. Train ride goes out several miles and back. Fun little day for people that enjoy electric trains and their history. Buy your tickets there and enjoy lots of parking!

Had so much fun, spending the afternoon with friends and taking the train! We were happy to learn there are event rides through the year, such as Santa train in December and local wine-tasting train in April. The history about the California railroads and transportation was actually interesting! We look forward to going again, maybe taking a picnic next time and enjoying the park/gazebo. The Western Railway Museum is a nice spot, just a little bit out in the country, but not too far away. It will also be a place we can take out-of-town visitors.

We signed up to be members on Memorial day weekend so we went for our first time and enjoyed an hour long interurban train ride, a bounce house, part of the museum, and a 15 minute streetcar ride. Can't wait to go back!
