I have been a member for 20 years. I am very disappointed because I was canceled because I did not go enough. That was the excuse that Rod Stead gave they Overdrafted my account three times for doubling the payment with no response. I’ve asked over and over again to talk and speak with the Director. I still have yet to hear from anyone I go to the YMCA in Middletown, Hartford had a problem with that so they found any reason to cancel my membership. You had 20 years of taking my money and just like that you treat me away so I will find somewhere else to go.

When I signed up for the ymca they charged me a prorated amount for the rest of the month and then on the first I paid for the full month. When I canceled the membership, all of a sudden there’s no more prorated amounts.

There’s only a prorated amount when it is at the customer’s expense and to their benefit.

I canceled the first week of December and I had to pay the entire month of December and the entire month of January. Since you need 30 days notice to cancel, I was expecting to pay for the next 30 days only. That would be for the remaining 3 weeks of december + the first week of January. Instead they are charging me for the next 55 days! I prefer the gym I was going to in West Hartford but tried out the Y for the location. What a mistake!

Once you submit the written request for cancellation , instead of taking full responsibility of processing your request they tell you on the form that it’s your responsibility to verify with your financial institution that cancellation has been processed…

The YMCA will not tell me if my cancellation has been processed correctly… I have to ask my bank? What? How would my bank know if I canceled my membership to anything? They are immoral and trying to get as much money as possible in anyway they can.

I have been a member at the downtown location for over five years. This is a fantastic, convenient gym for those of us who work or live in downtown Hartford.

The physical facilities are top notch - a complete remodel was done a few years ago. The fitness staff and group programs are also really good.

Another plus is there is a mix of patrons - about half are the expected upper middle class business types but the rest include students and other local Hartford residents who bring a multi-cultural flavor.

On the minus side, at times the maintenance/service staff can be challenging: there is an inexplicable, constant lack of available clean towels and a yearslong problem with defective, electronic locker locks. And hours are greatly curtailed on weekends (closes at 1).

Overall this is a fantastic gym.

Amazing YMCA in heart of downtown Hartford. This location is always very friendly to visiting touring shows playing at the Bushnell.

Very clean and well maintained, this location has a ton of cardio equipment, free weights, and machines. There’s a functional training area, spin studio, yoga studio, and group fitness studio.

Staff is extremely friendly and welcoming.

Great layout, large location, has everything you need.

Very nice. Facilities are clean and well cared for. Staff is awesome, always very helpful and welcoming. Centrally located in downtown. There are classes and all sorts of programs offered as well as personal training. Very happy to have found this location right here in downtown Hartford!

They are rude and uncompassionate when I needed to use the bathroom. Asking if I was a member during an emergency. The Albany avenue one is way better. And they are much nicer.

Google needs to update their times. I just called the YMCA and they told me that they close at 7:00 p.m. but the times on Google says 8:00 p.m.
