I really enjoy coming and I think it’s a great place for all ages. The YMCA of the Shoals is a large facility and they have a lot of classes. The pools are nice and I like the fact that they separate the locker rooms by ages. The only thing about the kids locker room is there is no machine to dry the swim suits so I had to take my 5 year old granddaughter into the adult locker room with me and they don’t like that. They have something going on all the time and you can definitely stay busy. When the kids are there it can be loud. They gym is 24/7 and that’s great for the adults. The staff aren’t particularly friendly. They have a lot of younger people working there who will assist you but they don’t go out of there way to be friendly. They do offer scholarships if you need one and you don’t have to have kids.

I’ve been a member of this YMCA for years, and unfortunately, my experiences with the woman manager have been incredibly disappointing. She lacks the leadership skills necessary to run the facility effectively—communication is poor, concerns are ignored, and there’s a clear lack of organization. Her dismissive attitude toward both members and staff creates an unwelcoming environment. I expected much better from someone in her position. This location deserves a manager who truly cares about the community.

Front desk staff is rude. My daughter and I are new members and we were not aware that there were no guess passes allowed on Sundays. The lady withe glasses and blonde hair was rude about this. My 6yr old left very upset because her father could not swim with her.

Pool closes if there is a cloud in the sky. Do not even bother going over there to swim if it is raining. Lifeguards will stand outside and close the pool if they hear any distant rumble, including big trucks and Camaros so that they can have another hour off to play on their phones. Ridiculous

staff complains of lighting early to get off work. not a cloud in sky a couple times. paying for a membership and they wanna go home early on a weekend so cry lighting. says it stays open til 5 Saturday and Sunday. staff will close at 430 anyways. other than that I love it. but they should really have a talk with those kids about that.

Not only do you have to be 19 for a day pass but the members you are coming in with have to be at least 21 or you can’t get in. So the only option I was offered was to buy a membership for $26/mo plus a $25 joining fee. How does it make sense that an 18 y/o can buy a membership but not eligible for a day pass. Very very frustrating.

I have been a member here off and on since it opened. I love the staff. They are so very helpful and compassionate. I like that they have different places to work on your body. Plus they cater to all people including Handicappable.
The only draw back that I have noticed is there are several machines in gym that are not able to be used because of repairs. Plus all the maintenance doors were open. Anybody could walk in, especially children.

This is a great YMCA! No matter your age or fitness level, you will feel accepted, comfortable, and challenged (if that's what you're looking for) at this Y. As a parent, there is no gym in town that compares to the childcare options here and I've never had a single concern about bringing my babies here. They're grown now, but the first thing I did when physically able was check them into Child Watch and take some "self-care" time in one of the classes. The instructors are kind and learn your name and it's never intimidating. We've used their after school care over the years as well. All-around a well-run, thoughtful facility.
