Sylvan has been an absolute reward for my daughter and strengthened her academics. We were in search of a tutoring service that was a good fit for her and was flexible with our very busy after-school schedule. Phil and the teachers at Sylvan have been so easy to work with, and have rejuvenated my daughters love for learning! Everytime she leaves Sylvan she is smiling, and I can tell the help from the compassionate and professional tutors at Sylvan have given her added confidence in class. My 8 year old started at Sylvan last school year and went consistently over the summer. We have seen progress in his reading and he has started to enjoy reading rather than having to struggle with his nightly reading. Everyone there has really worked with us as a family to create a positive experience with tutoring. We had some struggles at the beginning to get him to participate but Phil worked with us and my son and we now have a smooth drop off and he’s really enjoy it. Sylvan has saved us with the fights at homework time as he’s able to get some done while he’s there. Overall our experience with everyone at Sylvan has been amazing. I highly recommend them.

I naturally find myself recommending Sylvan San Luis Obispo to other parents because it has been such a positive experience for us. My son started 2nd grade falling behind in reading & writing and was distracted in the classroom. Since he started Sylvan we have seen changes in his behavior in the classroom and improvement with his reading skills. Sylvan Learning Center helped support my sons reading challenges and made a huge impact on his growth in just one month. As a mother, I was able to see his confidence blossom at home during reading and spelling. His teacher is so impressed with the tools he was given to attack and overcome the difficulties reading presents in the English language. His spelling tests have gone from 3/10 on average to 9/10 on average. I couldn’t be more proud. Carving out time and dedicating to this program was the best investment in my sons academic experience. This doesn’t happen overnight, the commitment is worth it and invaluable.

Phillip was instrumental in supporting him and being patient with him. Allowing him to be comfortable to try his best. Thanks to the Sylvan Team, we have continued to make huge successes in reading and math!

What a blessing to have found Sylvan in San Luis Obispo for my 17-year old daughter who needed to improve her writing skills! Philip and Matt have been nothing but professional, warm and genuinely concerned about the students and their families. They have been most accommodating with our scheduling needs. My daughter truly enjoys her sessions with Mariah and Philip. I have also noticed that she has become a lot more comfortable with her writing assignments and has shown a lot more confidence in tackling them, something that was a long time coming. My granddaughter has always loved Math but in junior High her grades took a nose dive. She didn’t want to go to Sylvan but I insisted. The first class was preceded with tears and a lot of complaining. She ended up loving her teacher and has admitted to me, now that she is in high school that it was a good idea. She has an A in math. Our 11 year old son will soon be entering the 7th grade. We were looking for a summer math tutoring program. A friend recommended looking into Sylvan SLO because the director, Philip Toriello, is great with kids. After only the first math and writing assessment, Philip had a surprisingly accurate and refined understanding of our son's strengths and weaknesses. We decided to give it a try. Our son has been working with his Sylvan math tutor for 4.5 hours per week for the majority of the summer. He REALLY enjoys working with her. He says they have a lot of fun and she's funny. She is positive and encouraging. He's made a lot of progress and is much more confident with math than when he started. We have been thoroughly impressed since our first visit. So much so, that he will continue his Sylvan math tutoring sessions throughout the school year.
