My mom was recently moved to The Avalon in New Albany. I have to say, that I am very impressed with them. From the very first interactions with the staff, deciding and planning the move, they have been amazing. They are friendly and attentive to mom's needs. They are proactive, keeping me informed of any questions/issues/concern that has arisen.

The facility itself is very cleaned and maintained. The staff being incredibly helpful getting mom in and set up in her one bedroom. Mom generally like the meals, with a nice variety.

All in all, I really like this place. I can see me utilizing it if I ever get to needing to be in Assited Living.

A thankful son.

I recently visited The Avalon of New Albany on Valentine's Day with my 12 year old daughters to distribute handmade Valentines and carnations to all of the residents. I want to thank the business office manager, Kenneth, for his exceptional assistance during our visit. Despite the surprise nature of our visit, he graciously escorted us through the facility, ensuring everything went smoothly. His actions greatly contributed to the positive experience for both us and the residents. It's clear that the staff know all of the residents and their families well and truly care about each person. We hope to return again to continue spreading joy among the wonderful residents.

Non trained staff for memory care. Mom has fell numerous times. Hasn't had helped eating. Room not secure, had man in room standing over her according to camera. Left for hours with dirty pants more than once. No one checks oxygen portable or notices oxygen concentrator not working for oxygen care. Laundry not kept clean or delivered and folded sporatically. Found dirty toilet seat more than once. Room was never vacuumed or bathroom floor cleaned. Patients left sitting in night activities room for hours without water or any snacks. I have witnessed a man falling over and over again and they just kept picking him up. Putting him back in chair only to allow him to fall out again. Poor care for many patients. Patients are only checked on every three hours nightly. If they fall, they will lay for hours. No communication whatsoever between shifts regarding patient care or patient feeding activities etc. One night found a clothes washer smoking profusely and no technician was called in. No reporting, let alone a fire technician. Was told it was due to overloading. Staff is trained by other UNTRAINED staff. No other technical monitors or monitoring tools. I will report facility to ODH, AG and Dept of Aging. Patients should be treated as such at all times. This facility also pays no attention to nutritional aspects for meals. Many starches and no vegetables . Hopefully some major changes will take place but considering how this is operating-- I am not too hopeful.
Amazing what you find out when you spend several hours a night at a facility. Do your best to investigate where you put your loved one. Most importantly is THEIR CARE , not the popcorn machines and theater room.
Mom entered Avalon on August 7th 2024 against the advise of the Memory Care Nursing Manager but she was overriden by management. My mother walked to the transport bus to head to Avalon.
My mother DIED due to neglect and abuse on October 21, 2024 AT Avalon of New Albany.
You don't get ANY excuses. Your facility is a hell hole for patients and you have NO right to pretend your a caregiving facility for these patients. Your facility is disgusting. No care, neglect, abuse for all fragile patients. My mother was NOT the only one being abused and neglected.

Overall management staff are patients advocate and caring. Activity director, plant operations, kitchen, human resources, marketing / move in coordinator and executive director appears to have one goal, “make Avalon safe and fun assisted living place”. Food quality and variety are outstanding. More empathy and timely help from some of the nursing and aid staff could make The Avalon of New Albany a 5+ stars facility.

My mother recently moved to The Avalon of New Albany from an independent living community. We were concerned the transition would be difficult for her but that was not the case. The residents welcomed my mother to the community and encouraged her involvement in activities. She calls every day to tell us how much she loves it there. Sharon and Nicole have been amazing to work with and helped us navigate the move every step of the way. We are so appreciative and thankful we found a good fit for my mother.

We recently moved my brother in law into The Avalon of New Albany. Though a difficult life changing event, we know it was the right choice.

Everything about The Avalon is outstanding.
There are many activities to encourage the residents to get out of the confines of their large apartments. They honor their resident Veterans by displaying pictures of them and offer a place for them to meet together. This truly touched my heart. They also have nondenominational church services on Sundays. Other activities include choir, trivia times, happy hour, Wii bowling, just to name a few. And, I hear the meals are first rate, too!

And though these activities they offer are great for the residents, I need to explain the real reason behind my 5 star rating. It’s the people who care for the residents. I have never met such a caring and compassionate group of people. As soon as you enter the building you are welcomed by helpful and kind receptionists. I’ve also been able to watch these ladies interact with those who live at The Avalon. The tenderness they display is beautiful.

Dave, the lead on anything technical, is purely awesome. Trying to set up my brother in law’s computers and tv, we were at a total loss. It was Dave who did it for us. He is gentle in his way of doing things for the residents. He has a good sense of humor, too which put us at ease. I know during the first week, we called on him at least 5 times. God bless this man for the patience he displays.

Lastly, but most importantly, Sharon! She is the director of marketing and sales for The Avalon at New Albany. However, she is so much more than that. Sharon is a problem solver, she is helpful, she is encouraging, she is always right there when you need her. Sharon is my go to person, and she never fails me. Sharon listens to family members in a compassionate way. To me she just exemplifies the love residents and family members alike need at The Avalon.

So yes, finding a place for your loved ones is always going to be a difficult journey. We couldn’t be happier over choosing The Avalon at New Albany.
